| Always ask why they are still not playing in Oz.In Smiths case we all know he had off field problems and was more or less last chance saloon but credit to the bloke he has come good.Mellars was a good solid player for crusaders but on the wing and could come good next season.Collis aint done bad to say he aint been fully fit and next season could prove a good buy but needs to bring his wingman more into the game.John came with a good reputation from former players but if was that good would still be in Oz.Southern had a good reputation but also had in the past had injury problems throughout his time playing the game.Lets face it we have had some imports come with great reputations in the past who have been rubbish only time will tell with Southern and John but I wont hold my breath on it.

Ok well we sure have discovered he can't cover as prop. I'm sure he's had a few games in the second row, I may be wrong. I hope he fights to get back in the squad but the competition for those second row positions is very hot. Washbrook and Aiton will take some shifting from loose if Ellis is to be kept at 9.

| Southern`s best days were at the Cowboys however he had a knee reconatruction and couldn`t get back in their starting 17, he ended his time there playing for their feeder side Northern Pride (JD`s next coaching job). He joined Newcastle Knights but injuries again restricted his appearances and he dropped down to play Toyota Cup, then we gave him a 3 year deal which he jumped at, just hope in his next 2 years he gets back to something like his best form but I`m sceptical that he can. With a bit of luck he`ll get homesick and we`ll agree to release him, leaving room for a good solid prop. Having watched a fair few NRL games there seems to be an abundance of good younger props down under, someone like Taumololo who has played a few games for the Cowboys, big strong and pacy (for a prop), who wouldn`t break the bank.

I hope he can break a tackle because Southern can't.

| our overseas players have been hit n miss imho, collis i think has shown flashes briliance and think fully fit he will be class, i do think he been playing on one leg for some time, aigton has been a quality player best of the lot but do we keep him at hooker? or loose? not sure, mellars for me is a winger and should be put there next season prob for fox may seem harsh on foxy sorry, john well not sure i think maybe give him alittle time to settle but not convinced tbh, southern i feel alittle sorry for injuries and having to play prop most of time didnt help but if it a straight choice between keeping him and getting a decent prop then i afraid i go with prop , and last but not least tim smith to me has shown us what a good player he is and finally showing the form he had at paramatta well done tim, i supose it all about opinions and this is my humble one !!

| I can see the thinking behind fox and mellars but I think fox and cockayne have been vital in our danger zone yard making and fast play of the balls.
The two work their socks off and drive up field in the early tackle count. For this they are worth their weight in gold. It has seen the team gain fast paced plays and get a roll on up field.
I wouldn't change either of our wingers.

| Oh I get it now.
Team is playing well so we can't blame Agar until we lose again.
Mathers has picked up form so difficult to pick on him now.
Cocaine keeping his nose clean.
How about the injured guy? Yes, hard for people to defend him as he isn't playing.
Yer Southern is rubbish. Can't tackle! Doesn't put any effort in. Yes I know he won a few games with his defen alone but that's nothing. And yes I know he is so dedicated that he tries to tackle someone when he has a bad injury but forget that. It was nothing. Oh and his tries. Scored a few before he was injured but anyone could have done that. He can't break tackles if he keeps running into gaps. What a waste.
Can we not just support the team, whether injured or not?
Kirmond has stepped up. That is great. Doesn't make Southern a bad one.
Props have been poor up to now. Doesn't make him a prop.
Let's just make it to end of season and see what happens.
You might find he is really important to us as we are needing to win some tough games soon.

Epic dummy spit of Olympic standard
Very few can be accussed of late to not be supporting the team mainly due to performances (we are a fickle bunch ). Southern is part of the team and if he were to run out he would be supported from the terrace (I'd like to hope).
Southern splits opinions on here. The conversations regarding him in the main have been reasonable. There are arguments for both sides of the fence. I see good parts to southerns game and not so good. I believe he has been victim of our early season lack of props situation. That said I also feel that southern needs to work on his fitness big time. Nobody can question the guys efforts even if he has fallen short (to date) of expectations.
Bottom line is with southern is it's up to him alone to answer his critics on the field.

Southern certainly hasn't won games with his defence alone, that is a falsehood.
It's a team game and I'm sure you'll find that if you look back on those games we won earlier in the season when he was playing you will find 2 or 3 men in a tackle not a 1 on 1 situation.
All I'm saying is Southern will seriously have to up his game to push out what we have at the moment, no-one is saying he's a bad egg, we just need to see a lot more from him so he's not deemed to be wasting a quota spot.

Hell of a statement that !
Seeing has he hasn't played in the last three we have won and he has proably not played in half of the others. Also when he has played if i remember correctly he was never on the field for more than around 30mins, I would like to see the evidence to justify such a claim.

| Ok, I had a moment!
Looking back the statement is a bit strong, though I stand by the rest.
I was thinking about the Widnes game. Personally, without his 1-1 defense early on, they would have taken over the game....but that's my opinion.
It really does bug me how 'fickle' if we are being polite a lot on here are though.
There are far more lines written about who we dislike tahn who has played well.
If the forum big voices had been followed we would be without both Agar and Tim Smith and others too. Smith was booed at some games remember.
