| I think any of Wright, Poching or Cummins as HC would be a mistake - we deserve and need better.
Any one of them as assistant to Mr Gentle however, would be a very satisfactory outcome.

I'd be happy with either. Fev play great rugby and have a good defensive structure. The more you hear about cummins the more he sounds like he's ready for a shot at the big time.

| Not having a go at anybody but what makes Poching not ready yet and Cummings ready, when Willie has been an Assistant Coach at least as long as Cummins and possibly longer?
Also Peter Gentle, what's the obsession with him, not only on here but at Cas and HKR as well. He's 'only' an Assistant like the other two. His appointment seems to be more eagerly awaited than the second coming.
Assuming the 'second coming' happens in either Cas or East Hull I'd be happy enough with Daryl Powell. My only wish is that it is not Agar or Goulding.

I was just about to ask the same thing! Could someone explain why would his appointment lead to the club improving on the field?

He's assistant coach at Wests Tigers, who play one of the most entertaining brands of rugby in the NRL. He's also assistant coach for the Aussie national side, both of which must speak of his competence to even the most determinedly cynical?
Personally, I believe he'd have the same kind of positive influence on the club that other NRL assistant coaches have had in SL; Michael Maguire, Nathan Brown and Trent Robinson spring to mind.
Working at assistant level in the NRL is clearly equipping some coaches with the right skills and experience to transform the culture of SL clubs and instill a winning mentality - I'd like a piece of that action, ta very much.

Just playing Devil's advocate here: if Gentle is the mutt's nuts - why is he not staying in the NRL? For the record I'd like to see someone like Gentle as HC with Wright as no 2 being groomed to take over in 2-3 years, but I'm struggling to see what his motivation is.

Not a secret i don't think as other's around the table were in the conversation as well. I just know what this things like at having things blown out of proportion, if it was in fact a secret.

When McClelland was at Leeds Cummins did all the every day coaching and the only thing McClelland did was pick the team at the weekend, allegedly of course.

Because the step up to Head Coach in that league is a big one, so a period of time in the top job at a SL club is seen as a good proving ground? I would imagine that 3 decent years in charge of a club like ours, where a demonstrable transformation can be achieved, would look pretty good on the CV.

There has been a lot of mud slung at McClennan and his time at Leeds, but his record speaks for itself, and he didn't do too bad a job with New Zealand either before that, so he must have something about him. If Cummins and Poching were the brains behind it, why did neither get the head coaches job at Headingley when it became available.
