I agree Snowie, I have some sympathy with the Welsh team players, however what about the fate of the players from the demoted club had one club not gone 'belly up'. Senior states that he was disappointed at being told 5 minutes before the announcement, at least he was told face to face; what about the players from 'endangered' clubs who were having to wait until some geezer on TV called your name out. Would there have been all this media talk had the club demoted been WT and it was perhaps Hendo who was losing his job?

To be fair, most of the Trinity players will have had a fair amount of time to look into to securing their futures due to everybody and their dog listing the club as the favourites for the drop for the last 18 months.

Indeed - I can only imagine how hacked off the parasitic colony of agents that surround the club will be; they'll have been picturing a bumper summmer, given that virtually every Wakey player would have become a free agent.
I feel really sorry for them...

He was extremely loyal, to his family. Looked like loss of income, look for new job.
We would all have done the same, given the circumstances.

| There is no room for sentiment in pro sport. If he improves your team he is a good signing. A small time mentality in my opinion nearly got Wakefield out of the top flight.
Time to be professional. He is a good winger going through a bad spell but he will be back and he will improve Wakefield.
Fans are fickle he scores a few tries all is forgotten 1 thing he can do is score.
I would also say both Karl Pryce and Cockayne would be excellent signings for Wakefield.

I agree with the first sentence, but disagree totally with the suggestion of signing Pryce and Cockayne; one of them is a big soft pudding and the other is a mentalist.

But both will massively improve Wakefield, the notion that Pryce is soft is an interesting one given the way he regularly smashes around forwards. He is lazy yes but he is not soft. He has a fantastic strike rate even in teams that struggle. Cockayne may be a total muppet but he adds genuine threat in the back 3. Pryce and Fox on the wings with Cockayne at 1 would provide the team with genuine threat and 2 of the players do not need service to make things happen.

Wouldn't want the club to be associated with Cockayne. He's just a serial nob head.
Would think similar about Ryan Hudson or Gareth Hock. These three guys send out wrong messages about our game.

I think the point is valid, but the examples chosen are bad ones. For starters I reckon 2 out of the 3 would come with a fair old price tag on their head.
Pryce has failed to deliver most of the time with bigger clubs than ours and also with similar clubs to ours - whats to suggest he will stop being lazy for us? He would be just out type of winger, big and powerfull but his attitude appears to stink.
Cockayne is, as has been said, a just a knob - and whilst he can certainly play he has had too many chances and continues to be a nasty peice of work. If we are going to sign a bad boy I would rather we look at Tansey who I reckon has got more ability than any of the 3 players suggested.
Fox again is a good player, but any money wasted on a winger as we just dont use them. We need powerful wingers, ones who help us get out of our own half and take work off the forwards, show ponies arent a good fit for us.

Agreed. Don't think it's a case that we don't use them it's that we can't as we don't ever have the players to serve them. Fans have short memories, I've been watching Trinity for 20+ years and we have never really had success on the wings. This despite the fact that we have through the years had some really pacey and previously successful wingers on the books.
It's the same as the alleged Kear 5 drives and a kick. When Kear had Brough and a few others we played fairly expansive RL. Ditto the last long lasting Coach we had in Toppo.
Toppo has gained legendary status over time yet for the bulk of his tenure we were as dull as ditchwater and the only Winger who really had success under Toppo was Andy Wilson and he was no more than 10 tries a season. Kear like Toppo was always hamstrung by the sort of players he could afford or could keep hold of. It wasn't until Nigel Wright and Jeff Bagnall turned u that we really started to play attractive RL.
John Glancy was one of my fave players then but he simply couldn't pass a ball and he was not alone he just grafted. Our creative spark was Mark Conway who made Ben Jeffries look like Mr Consistent even though on his day Conway could be a brilliant player.
For me we need a pack first, pivot players next, then the link players and finally finishers - it's not new that's always been the formula. Give Kear or whoever the tools to do the job and they probably will eventually. If people actually think we are playing the kind of that Kear wants they are deluded. You can pehaps suggest his methods are wrong but his motive will be just fine.
I seriously doubt JK says to his players "Go out and make me look a cock and ruin my reputation and my future prospects please". Likewise I don't think Tommy Lee goes out and try to be a below average half back he just is.
People also say if Lee is so bad play a youngster - well actually Kear has in Wildie who people were clamouring for. Well I'm sorry but for me he's yet to prove he is anything like ready for SL. I think we need to be a little realistic about the players we have and are likely to get.

| Personally, I'd like to see Ben Cockayne given a shot by Wakey. He is much better than Tansey imo, and tbf they both seem to be just as bad as each other off the field. Ben would give 100% to Wakey, because he has a real point to prove, so he would be a great asset. He returns the ball with interest, he's very versatile, he can finish tries, and his defence is solid. Give him a chance, as far as Im concerned.

I'd prefer to see him shot by Wakey to be honest. I generally try not to moralise to much about players as I never bought all this role model crap. However you need to draw a line somewhere and for me he is it. It's not what he does which is bad enough it's that he keeps doing it which shows he has little or no remorse IMO. Baily at Leeds had the same problem but his time in Jail seemed to cure him of that. Perhaps it would help Cockayne but I get the feeling that prison may be a home from home for him.
