| Quite enjoyed this show, I have the utmost respect for the police.. its a crappy job and having to deal with the vermin on the run every weekend must be depressing as hell.
I reckon alot of the disrespect to police comes from something that happened almost 30 years ago... which has been passed down to their kids.. and their kids kids.

| What was apparent was that those who do get arrested are the ones who don't leave the scene. The ones who were arrested were those who kept on pushing the buttons until the police lost patience. Those who raise a hand in apology and move on were allowed to do so.

| Arrest them, put them in a cell,charge/don't charge them either way then make them pay for their lodgings lessening the burden for policing.

| To be fair as one who still frequents on a saturday night,i see very little trouble to be honest.
Far worse in 80's,as previously stated gangs from around city.Lupset/outwood/streethouse and normy were always fighting each other. Not to mention the geordies/mackems one of which
would always call in town on there way back north.
I can remember being trapped in black rock with a dozen or more punters with a gang of geordies being attacked by leeds fans, well scary.

Yes, that one officer, was a right drama queen or was playing up to the cameras. That other kid who came to make a complaint and ended up getting arrested, made himself look a right fanny.

I actually agree here although the last time i went up town was the time the mustangs got shut down and me and a bunch of mates were stuck inside for a few hours lol. Incidentally you live on my street if its the Cross Lane near Morrisons!

| Cheers all for the responses. Points taken and I'll try not to be as hysterical when thinking about Westgate as in the OP.
I tend to think of Westgate in quite a negative light because its not really my sort of scene and because the last time I went there, which was about six years ago, I got my drink spiked in Quest. I remember very, very little about the night, but what I do remember is finding the Trinity squad, hugging Korki and telling him that "He was doing wonders at the club" over and over again. Horrible night.

| Quote: bren2k "In respect of the Coppers programme; I've enjoyed some of it, but I don't think it's showed them in a particularly good light. The traffic ones in particular came across really badly, but then they always do.'"
I think the lay out of that episode was brilliant. The first half of the episode played into this stereotypical view of the police as fat, thuggish, idiots who just want to arrest everyone, where the second half of the episode highlighted why they are so stern and ignorant of folk who try to bend the law on the road. They're the ones who deal first hand with incidents on the roads and they're the ones who clean up the mess and deal with those effected. So, they know you don't get second chances if you do something wrong on the road at the wrong time and they're all too aware of the deep emotional effects they have.
I find it more comforting to know there's a bunch of mini-Hitler's patrolling the motorways keeping folk in line than the softly-softly diplomatic bobby on the beat coppers who will have a good chat with someone whose done wrong rather than arrest them.
