Our discipline, composure and ball retention needs to be improved as IMHO it was in these three areas we lost the game last night.
Big improvement, great effort but we simply got beat by a better team on the night.
Bring on Wigan!'"
Absolutely spot on!

JD may have dropped it but he was also doing lots of hard work. I dont subscribe to the view that he is past it.
I have never seen such a fickle group of people as those supporters who having witnessed some of the greatest times over the past 20 years at Wakefield Trinity now turn on the people (JK and JD) who both delivered those highs and raised all our aspirations and expectations.'"
Yes everyone was dropping it on both sides, but JD did seem to drop it a lot more. I'd need to watch the recording to say for certain, as the rain may have been clouding my view somewhat, but it did seem to me he was trying to carry the ball into the tackle in what was a rather careless manner considering the condidtions. Holding it away from the body to free it up for the offload may have suited a nice sunny day a season ago, that little bit stronger, and in a game we were clearly on top of, but last night it just didn't seem appropriate.

I have nothing to complain about this morning. With the last 2 performances I am confident we will get a top 8 spot (probably 8th but it will do)
In many respects, yes, it was a decent performance. One we could easily have walked away from with a victory though, if we hadn't played dumb rugby at times.

| Quote: Slugger McBatt "I imagine that the bench was partly dictated by the decision as to what to do with three-quarters at the beginning of the game. I assume that JK wanted JD in there at the start to beef up the defence early on, to take some of the sting out of the Leeds attack. Once Leeds start to tire, he would want more speed in there, and so Murphy takes his place. That necessitates Blaymire being on the bench.
Jeffries was just the interchange hooker, in reality, as he was used as part of that. Again, with Obst at 7 at the start, we began the game with a strong defence in the backs, with JD in the centres.
I think it was a shrewd bench, that started with a beefed-up defence for when Leeds would be fresh, and then introduced pace when Leeds would be tiring, and with that set-up we matched them.'"
Surely though if you have a back on the bench for 40 minutes the forwards are going to have to cover an extra 40 minutes between them one way or another? If JD moves from centre into the pack he is not fresh and imo to get the best out of JD now we need to use him smarter. He still has something to offer but overplaying him will neither help him or the team

i was the same a few weeks back until i sat down and thought to myself. ted richardson pays john kear to coach the team not me or any one else on here.
yes we made mistakes last night, yes we lost the game, maybe some people should not be playing but they are we need to deal with it and get behind the team. we are all wakey fans so lets be proactive in stead of reactive and start getting behind them and we will get there.
and as of retiring JD, far enough he is coming to the back end of his career but he has been with us for years so lets show the man some respect. just think about the service he has given to the club
all in all even tho we did lose last night we show great sprit to keep fighting for the game and the 2 points'"
One easy way to solve that old boy.....

| JK did pick a strange bench IMO, but let's get the perspective back a bit here...
We are only one senior player missing injured, but one player was clearly not fit (and yes, I would have probably gambled on him playing) and we still have 3 influential players who are no longer with the club. This, together with the financial constraints we have at Wakey, means that even to get to compete with the likes of Leeds is a major miracle and, for all that we would have picked player A as opposed to player B, not one of us would be able to coach that side to play at anywhere near the standard that we currently do.
Do some of the people posting on here really think that the only thing JK should be judged on is what players he picks on the bench? If that is the case then it only goes to show how little understanding there is of such a difficult and stressful job!

Blah Blah Blah ..... only someone with no brain would not accept the points you make about it being great that we competed with leeds last night and that we do very well with the budget we have. However we are discussing the merits of certain decisions that were taken last night, as is often the kind of thing you do on a forum no? And are you saying a) that we shouldn't make judgements on Kear's bench selection and/or that any discussions we have on here should start with us first clarifying that 'we realise we do a great job given the financial constraints' ? You know just so it's clear for all?

Is that Rugby League blah blah??
No - I'm not saying that we can't question the selection (I think you may find that I said that he picked a 'strange' bench, but don't let that get in the way), nor do I think we can't question player recruitment / departures etc - or indeed any aspect of the club, but, in building my own argument (you see the idea here ) I am suggesting that there is far more to coaching than the mere picking of a side for matchday and, as such, I still maintain that JK is 'head and shoulders' the best man for the job at Wakey and that to ditch him would be akin to suicide for the club as we are currently in a point scoring position for our licence application and that's where we need to stay!
Please continue with the debate on the team selection - FWIW I would have left Gleeson out and had Murphy in the centre and an extra forward - probably Fergy - on the bench, but I don't think it would have altered the outcome.

| well i watched last night expecting a good walloping, but i actually think we gave it our all last night and for me thats all i can ask, selection was strange as many people think i never known teams having a full back on bench to change half way thru, hooker yes full back no. i think matty should start full back and murphy in centres for gleeson, sorry just my opinion but he doesnt do it for me, fergie on bench i think, i would start with bj and sam as halfs and cooke to loose forward and deffo charlie on bench for wigan game we need some power i think as they are a big team, but i guess it all about opinions and i going to come out of my self exile on the evidence of last night, if we put that sort of effort in then they worth my hard earned money that all i ask is effort and commitment, if these things as well as ability to stick to game plan are there then we will win more games i sure

| Quote: owiepob "Once again JK puts out a team charged with tactics which proved adequate to win the game - but for a rush of blood from Gleeson just before half time with the unneccessary pass to Blanch and any number of barn pot errors from Latu. Im staggered that people really believe that getting beat by 6 at Headingly, under such circumstances, is JKs fault.'"
SENSE!
I feel the lapse in concentration 2 minutes before half-time lost us it and not for the first time this season! The moment Blanch dropped that ball I just knew Leeds would score before the hooter. We should have gone in 12-14 with all to play for in the 2nd half. Instead we go in 18-14 down and come out chasing the game in difficult handling conditions.
You could argue that the pass was on for Blanch and he should have taken it, you could also argue that Gleeson should have been thinking about taking the tackle and getting to half time. We'll never know.
On another note, take Maguire and Sinfield out of that Leeds team and they wouldn't have a clue.

Cant agree with you there entirely, as you say it could have gone either way. I dont think they were better than us on the night they just had a better goal kicker.
