The video makes a valid point, that having a rugby stadium in the middle of a densely-occupied neighbourhood causes problems, particularly with on-street parking. I have a solution, however: build it in a field, away from densely-occupied neighbourhoods, with around 800 dedicated parking spaces.

There we go, job done. Now then, if stanleyman is reading this, I know of a site by the motorway, the site of an old colliery, that would answer all the woes expressed by the residents of Agbrigg.

Hope this helps

Quote: kinleycat "I personally think this is a genuinely honest post.
The only way forward with this development is through debate with "all" conserned, I have seen the plans and it is a truly huge development, especially for those who are going to be living amongst it. I strongly believe that the plans are as sympathetic to those residing at Newmarket, but non the less it is going to be a massive change from what is a semi rural backwater (no offence) to a busy industrial, area.
The fact remains however that what is one day a beautiful view out of your living room window, unless you own the land, not always going to be so.
I remember numerous areas around Wakefield that were once undeveloped land and people had unspoilt views from there homes, that are now thriving industrial areas bringing business and employment to thousands of local people, the 41 estate, paragon, junction 32, silkwood park, normanton ind est, Calder island the list is very long, and very important to the area.
I have genuine sympathy for the residents, I would not wish for my house to be in the middle of such a development and neither would anyone else on this forum, so we are all nimbys, and don't let anyone tell you they aren't!!!
What is needed in this situation is debate, and I welcome the views of all, sympatheticly and honestly.'"

Debate is already taking place.

They are attacking the propositions we are defending the propositions.

Judging by the website of these people, there is little honesty in the opening post made by Stanleyman,it is littered with contradictions of what these people believe.

Eg. He would happy for the stadium in isolation to be built --- yet there website has a video attempting to show exactly why you wouldnt want a stadium built next to you.

There is an expression though - you can't please all of the people all of the time - which sums this up. This guy will not be won over in a month of Sundays. That is not to say we don't listen - or more to the point those who are responsible for the decision do, but our job is clear - to make our case bullet proof going forward and no amount of us 'pampering' to his whims on here is going to change anything I'm afraid.

If he wants to argue against the scheme, as it seems, then I'm sure there will be plenty of advice around as to how to go about it. If he wants to make a difference to the scheme then again he can get advice from the relevant quarters.

This forum is here for the benefit of discussion on Rugby League related matters and not to pander to take much pleasure from the failure of this venture.

Do not be taken in by the 'warm and cozy' posture taken - he is trying to win favour from sympathy from these boards - nothing more! icon_confused.gif

Don't be sorry - I merely meant to point out the risks.

I don't know the guy - I was 'profiling' based on details available. I genuinely feel though that they are now making the issue that of the industrial elements merely beacuse they feel that is weakest link. If there were no industrial elements, there would be some other element they didn't like - that's how it goes! icon_confused.gif

Without going into this too deeply, there is clearly an awful lot of benefits to Wakefield as a whole. The site will be developed now or in the near future due to it's location. Whilst nobody wants to see a development on their back yard, i would suggest those against think carefully before opposing such a development.

The land WILL be developed whether it's by Yorkcourt or another, and sometimes it's better to work as one to ensure all parties are happy. You never know what the next scheme maybe. I'd love to swap my view of the Toxic tip for Yorkcourt's proposal's!

Yes sir you are sir, and so are they, if they are muppets they will hang them selves given enough rope, bit only if they are allowed to speak.
If someone was building in the fields near my house a bloody great mosque, or gay rollerdisco, or even worse the cas' ground, I would want to voice my opinion, however it would soon become clear that I was just being objectionable for the sake of it, one thing you can't halt is progress and because I don't own the fields, I don't really have that much clout, but I would still want to moan!!!

I've just watched WCCG's video and left the following comment, which is waiting for one of their moderators to clear for publication - it will be interesting to see if it gets on!

Anyone that pays their road tax is allowed by law to park on the street unless parking is restricted. Having said that, I can see that this video makes the argument very well for locating the new stadium in a non-residential area with good transport links to minimise the disruption, The proposed site is as close to ideal as you could wish for, being on industrial land next to a very busy motorway. My personal preference would have been a City Stadium in Thornes Park, this would have made public transport a very real choice for many fans who will still travel by car to the new site - but at least they won't be blocking anyones drive!!

It would have been interesting to see the views of some of the local businesses in Agbrigg, particularly the corner shops / pubs.
