| Quote: Prince Buster "Wakefield Council is run by councillors from 'The East' due to the fact that is where the majority of the labour seats are. If you look at the political map you will see that in City and the surrounding wards Labour has lost control. Many of the councillors out in 'The East' have no interset in Wakefield whatsever but yet they control what happens here. If you also do your homework you will find that most of the richest wards are also around Wakefield. In that I mean where wards contribute more to the financial pot than they take out. You will also see that the wards to the east take out more than they put in.
I believe Wakey should ditch the east and run its own affairs. In all fairness it may also be better for the east of the district aswell to adapt to its own identity and run things to suit itself.'"
Interesting plan.....get a petition started then

The best thing that could happen for everyone would be for Wakefield to return to its City status and those wards to the East of the District to look after themselves.'"
I agree i think pontefract, castleford, featherstone and knottingley would be a lot better off for it too (perhaps normy too but people there tend to be split) especially in terms of funding for public projects, knottingley and featherstone having been particularly ignored by wmdc over the years.

THANKS for the notice period. quite a few people use this library who will now be inconvenienced greatly.
i note that dodd is the sports and culture director good for nothing at the council.

| Who do you need to send correspondence to in an attempt to save the library please? Also what are the main reasons for the closure?
WMDC money can only go so far but you could argue for and against anything. The facilty provides valuable resources for communities from 2 large areas within Wakefield. The facility costs too much to upkeep.
I personally have fond memories of the library and would like to keep it. Flanshaw is a regeneration area and grants should be easy to come by. Considering the Phoenix childrens centre was closed down close by it seems like the light aint shining on the area at present.
The main thing for me is if it does happen to close, it doesnt get left to rot and some other community use can come of this. Other private or public eye sores in the City include the car garage opposite Henry Boons, Unity House and ABC Cinema.. The car garage and Unity House amazes me why it hasnt been slightly cleaned up as houses on Westgate recieved an image overhaul to make the entrance into the city look nice even though they were private houses. Please if it does close dont let it become a derelict mess!!

| Send in letters to wakey express and local coucillors. There are also petitions at Dewsbury Road P.O and george a green chippy. The more people who voice their opinions the more chance we have of saving it and if you are not a member join.

The bloke offering the free upkeep on it is a red herring (and what nice, free publicity for his firm), but there's obviously some reason why the council are closing the library down that's unrelated to that - and anyway, what's to say yer man gets bored of popping to Flanshaw everytime something goes wrong. It's an offer that looks good in the papers, but is unworkable in reality.

The point still remains, there's obviously another reason other that maintenance as to why they want to close the library, and you can't rely on a volunteer to fix things for many and various dull red-tape reasons.
