| Eastmoor Dragons Under 12’s faced Newsome Panthers for the first time on Saturday and came out 32-22 winners. The Dragons started the brighter and raced into an early 14-0 lead. Fair play to the Panthers who didn’t let their heads get down and battled back to reduce the deficit to two points by half time. The second half was a close affair and only a couple of quick tries at the mid way point kept the Panthers at bay. The Eastmoor lads all put in a big effort and due to injuries we could only field 13 fit players. Congratulations to the players on both sides on an entertaining game.

| two games for CAB 12s since Ive been on here a friendly at Whine-more.
crigg won all areas even the reffing think he must of had a hard day at work as he was tired before he kicked off
then it was TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH
east leeds V crigg
i forget score (AGAIN )crigg ran away with it 2ndhalf but to be fair was gift wrapped it early doors with zoom (and i hate knocking em to much) bizarre reffing .
to give a penalty is fair enough , another 10 for backchat ....ok then but 20 more surely a word with captain / coach and player and then to march them 30 yards without pulling the captain .
Already in the E L 40s being given 30 Crigg were always going to score.
that was the firs play really aswell
I know we should give the Ref a little slack and in 10 years or so he may be Reffing in Super League I just don't want other teams thinking we are bribing these young whippersnappers that are coming through the Leeds Reffing society .

Another really entertaining game with some fierce defence from both teams.
Celtic had a giant of a lad playing for them but the Stanley lads contained him well.
Really impressed with the standard and the coaches at Stanley.'"
as far as junior 7/8s etc go your in the best place mate . as i said Emma is a mighty fine ambassador for the club but Dillon and other helpers whom i don't know at this moment who she as or whether Ant is back on board? if so It is a great fella and mate.
keep us informed john , cant believe hes playing now . seems only a season ago you were at saturday afters games chasing him down the east stand.
Ive been very blessed with coaches , i'm not gonna go on about him as he dont like it but the credentials of young mutts coach is OOTW and Tommy as fallen on his feet.
before that both have enjoyed great coaching from dedicated coaches.

| Sandal Spartans U13's lost a close fought encounter with Birstall Victoria on Saturday; Spartans started the game asleep and let in 3 tries in the first 15 minutes, but battled back to make it a nip and tuck affair for the rest of the game. Fantastic stuff - a tough old game with some great football from both sides.

I have heard from other clubs that the young lad who reffed our game has
taken charge of theirs at your place. Seems he was equally diabolical, and in all fairness the Crig representative I spoke with was going to contact the society to suggest he should not be reffing that level.
All referees will make mistakes, that's not hard to understand, it's when the one sided decisions are so blatant, that and the laughing and joking with opposition players in the game, it really undermines the effort the lads and coaches put in. If that referee is ever put in charge of our fixture in future we wouldn't even let the game begin.

sounds like the same ref that disallowed 4 lock lane tries the other week and awarded 1 to east leeds after failing to spot a knock on while every player stopped waiting for him to blow his whistle.at u12s it shouldnt be happening whilst refs make mistakes blatent cheating does nobody any favours.
final game before the break for us this weds night at shaw cross, thankfully we have 5 players returning from injury and hopefully we wont pick up any more on weds night then its a well earned rest for a 3-4 weeks before we start again in september.

| i was just wondering what peoples thoughts are on this seasons "summer" rugbuy for the juniors. i personally think that there have been too many weekends off and everything seems very disjointed! My own personal preference would be to go back to winter rugby but have the 3 month break from december to march.

| Given that we don't seem to be actually having a 'summer' this year, it's hard to judge.
On balance, I'd prefer to stay with summer but I agree with you - it's been a bit too disjointed, exacerbated by the lousy weather; it will be easier to judge after another full season.
Either way, it needs to be one or t'other for everyone; I can't see how the game benefits from warring factions pushing their own agenda and splitting the amateur game in two.

Going back to winter would be a step backwards IMO,it still wouldn't resolve the fixture problems which is most people's problem, the break now isn't ideal and needs looking at maybe making it shorter.the positives for me has been the training is much better in constant daylight although the weather hasn't been kind.

| We should accept that it's a transition year into summer rugby, some structural mistakes are bound to happen. The biggest issue for us will be coming back in sept with only one game to play, we'll sort some games out and keep going til Dec with a festival and possible play offs. I'd like to see larger divisions of around 12 and a look at the positioning of certain breaks. To say after less than 1 full season "well that didn't work let's scrap it" is ridiculous, the benefits of light etc as mentioned far outweigh other teething problems.
We've hardly struggled with pitches being too dry and hard, let's not forget games being cancelled in the winter with frozen/waterlogged grounds.

| Having been involved in junior rugby for about 12 years as a coach/parent and helping with sponsorship and running of ARL clubs, I can say that kids have always trained all year round with a break in the summer holidays of around 4-6 weeks and in winter between mid December and Feb, so the daylight training doesn't stack up for me as they've always had that benefit.
The thing for me over the move to summer leagues has been the speed it has been done following the decision to move, it seems that very little thought had been put in to the running of the leagues and the pitfalls of moving them from winter to summer, especially when it comes to clubs incomes and survival, there are other summer activities that are available to juniors that seem to have a better appeal and by having a 6 week break in the middle means you have a higher chance of loosing kids to other sports and not coming back to rugby.
I don't want a switch back to winter rugby, I just want a better organised summer league with some proper consultation with clubs/players/parents and league organisers to ensure its success.

| Bit of a shock when told my sons team will be stopping matches for the summer holidays and then starting up again in September to play a further 4-5 games then finishing the season in October.
I know this is the first summer season but it seems like its going on forever with lot of breaks.
Reason for the break over summer holidays is because clubs were moaning that they needed to have their gala's
I dont see why the season couldn't be finished mid/end of august and clubs have their galas in September, its not like the weather is any worse in sept these days.
The stopping and starting throughout this summer as been pretty frustrating for the kids who just want to play rugby

I tend to agree with you.
We're attending a couple of gala events (one in Whitley Bay!) and holding one of our own, and possibly arranging a couple of friendly matches, to keep the lads interested and to prevent them getting ring-rusty.
It's a bit of a daft arrangement though.

| Playing competetive games the last two weeks in July and all of August was always going to be difficult due to holidays, but is a bit of thought had been put in earlier we could have had all the divisions completed with just play offs left.
Bit od a re-think from YJARL is needed me thinks
