Under the current regime there have been many changes and most of these have happened without any consultation with fans and whist I appreciate that MC and Co have a business to run, the number of fans that have been "lost" over the past couple of years is a major concern and it must be hitting the clubs income extremely hard.
From day one, it's been very much "take it or leave it" and whilst NOBODY can criticise the effort and commitment of MC an Co, the scale and speed at which the support base has shrunk is truly frightening and it will be nigh on impossible to grow our support if the club moves to a new town.'"
Come on wrencat, the club and MC have been talking about this for months. He said, multiple times, that the rent is too high and do you know what, he is right! The fundamental issue that you cannot ignore is that the current rent arrangement is not fair and it is only worth what someone is willing to pay. The only someone would appear to be WTW! The club have made a very fair and reasonable offer to O'Hara and the BOI, they are not taking the mickey, just making a fair offer based on current and future business projections. They came to point where they had to make a choice, because a revised offer had not yet been accepted and the break clause in the lease was about to expire and there is only once choice to be made, hand in the notice.
The reality is that it is highly likely that a new lease deal for Belle Vue will be reached between all parties, but do you know what, if it isn't and they cannot get a substantial rent reduction then they are more than likely buggered anyway, and without doubt if the worst happens and next year is Championship Rugby then it would be the end.
So lets be clear, there were only two choices, and they took the one that carried the least risk! This is called making a good business decision and I am not sure why the club has to justify making decision that are clearly in the best interests of the club and fans as a whole, to anyone?

| Quote: Inflatable_Armadillo "Firstly, spot on summary of the current situation and how, primarily, NM & Belle Vue are unconnected in this current respect.
To address your point about the 'amount' YC are currently offering, and as you correctly state the strings attached to it, as ever, are quite complicated and multi-faceted. However, to put it simply YC have been the masters of the carrot on a stick approach to this deal since we learned that Newcold had been allowed to avoid the S106 obligations and the whole original deal we thought we had, was fundamentally put at risk primarily by WMDC actions.
So, the deal that YC is offering is the carrot and we can see it there, on the piece of string, dangling from the end of the stick! Great! He tells us the carrot is quite large, but not exactly how large? Well, he says, it is probably at least this big and might even be as big as this!!! We can see the carrot, it is there, but we really want to know exactly how big the carrot is and, more importantly, how far away it is before we decide whether to run and grab it. Sorry, he says, I can't tell you that now I am afraid, because even I don't know, but if you sign this deal now I promise I will give you a carrot, there will definitely be a carrot, look you can see it!!! We really, really want to know how big the carrot is and how far away the carrot is before we sign the deal and set off to grab the carrot? It could be close but small, maybe it is small but if we could have it now, then at least we would have had a carrot and maybe we could look for carrots from other people when we get hungry later? But the carrot might be larger because it is far away, but without knowing how far away, we don't known whether we will ever reach it and then if and when we do get there, it could still just be a really small carrot!!! Well, if you want a carrot from me then those are the conditions, you can either take the carrot, and I promise there will be a carrot, or leave the carrot, but if you do take it I can't tell you how big it is or when you can have it!
So, the reality at the moment is that we don't really have a deal, just the offer of a carrot at some point in the future! I already know that you, like us, would just continue to leave the carrot where it is because, at the moment, he has to keep it dangling there and while ever he does, we just might find out how big and how far away it is!
This of course brings us to the people who regulate the size of carrots, WMDC! We know that they have the option to get YC to tell us how big the carrot is and when we can have it, by stopping him from planting any more carrots, but so far they keep saying that as they are not selling the carrot, even though they are responsible for regulating carrots, that it is nothing to do with them!
So, to get away from bloody carrots, we have offered to take a beetroot instead, but we know exactly how big and when we would like our beetroot please? Trouble is, despite the beetroot being cheaper than the original carrot we wanted (and were indeed promised) he really does not want to give us our beetroot, probably because he thinks he can still get away with giving us a smaller carrot!
So, as you can see, there is not really a deal on offer unless you know who big and how far away the carrot is, or whether you can have a beetroot instead!
Sorry, that little fairy-story ended up being longer than I envisaged when I started typing!
So, the final point is that discussing what to do with your carrot, even taking your carrot outside the current carrot regulators area, is not really relevant until you have a carrot!
WOW
I get all you say - however it is worth noting that moving in with Dewsbury who I feel would but everyones least offensive option and assuming they are up for it offers one great advantage.
In the case of Dewsbury's ground you wouldn't need the whole carrot at once. Bite sized portions would allow it to be upgraded over a longish period, say 10 years. Even as it stand with the addition of some temporary seating and fencing it could handle all but a few of our matches with say a couple of games at Barnsley.
I know it's far from what we really want but it's a thought.

I cannot argue with any of your comments and for sure the rent agreement is excessive.
However, moving outside or the city, especially into Leeds, whilst it may not be too far away, it would be the beginning of the end and fundamentally,
how do you persuade "little Johnny" to support Wakefield Trinity when they are in Leeds ??
The young kids will end up supporting Cas or Leeds rather than supporting their hometown club, Wakefield Trinity.
Maybe the action taken by the club is the last resort and there really is no alternative but, it's bloody depressing and once out of town, what lever's will we have regarding Newmarket etc ?

| Michael Carter made it clear at todays lunch club that if the BOI do not agree to the reduction in rent we simply cannot afford to stay at Belle Vue. Of course if they do then its as you were.
In simple terms if the rent is not reduced we either "Move or Die". No-brainer really if you want to see Wakefield trinity continue.

Is it preferable to a ground share with Castleford? totally agree with you

If its a decent chuck of cash, and was minus any strings attached, I'd offer it to the BOI to buy back BV and make small improvements bit by bit.
One thing is for certain I'd trust Colin Mackie about as far as I could throw him. The guys on the stadium trust are quite right to treat anything he says with scepticism.'"
Get us both up in a cable car and I'll show you how far I can throw Colin Mackie!

I'm a strange guy
But having lived in Wakefield for over 40 years, Wakefield was always an obvious choice of club to follow.
In simple terms, would you be more or less likely to follow your home town club if they were based in the same town ?
(we have to excuse out of town glory seeking Rhino type fans for this question)
