What exactly happened - did Beans do a Cantona style flying kick, or just shout back at someone who was having a pop?

There seems to be a bit of a conundrum here for the club. We have the 'Rugby League is a family sport....' announcement and then, if reports of the use of the 'f' word are correct, we have a senior member of staff in the dock. Some may say that he 'was only reacting to provocation', but who defines what provocation is - a run of penalties, a player who polaxes one of ours, a punter who spills beer on someone, etc.... - if the use of foul language is 'not to be tolerated' then it should mean exactly that.

The Hickey Tweet was swept under the carpet (although we don't know if he was disciplined privately), but this, if proven to be correct, requires an apology.

Also, some realism; at every televised game, every week, one can be treated to a close up shot of most coaches and nearly all players yelling expletives - it's a mans game played by grown-ups and sometimes, grown-ups swear. The commentators often have a wry chuckle about it.

Having said that, when it spills over to a direct confrontation between a member of the coaching staff and a spectator then yes, it should be looked into.

Which coach was it who said "If you start listening to the fans, you'll end up sitting with them," or something along those lines.

That's typical mis informed nonesense - Steve Ferres appointed Broadbent.

He's a slightly tedious bloke who has a go at players endlessly and he's pretty dull with it but his mates laugh along with him which makes him feel he's a real wit. That said Beans should rise above it, he really should - I know it's hard but that's the job.

In which case, we should make our mind up as to whether we wish to keep the pretence about 'not being tolerated'. If a supporter used that language towards a steward he would be removed from the ground.

Not easy I know - the same problem exists on here for the mods!
