| Quote vastman="vastman"I'm not surprised in the least that you didn't read my post properly.
"He's clearly past his absolute best" is nothing like saying he's past it! He was at his peak 6 years ago when he was getting origin and test selection - that is clearly no longer the case is it!!
Hence we are not getting that player, but we are still hopefully getting a really good one - not rocket science is it?'"
If hes anything like Peacock he should be hitting his prime at 31

If that were the case he'd still be in the NRL and pushing for Origin/Rep selection - he's nowhere near that and hasn't been for years so i think his prime has passed. Peacock was a freak in a good way but very few players keep it going after their 30's if we are honest. I'd be happy if he maintains the steady form of the last few years in the NRL, that alone would make him our best player and one of the best in SL. So fingers crossed.

| Wouldn't say nowhere near that standard think that is harsh. The Sharks do not want him to go he had a terrific back end of the season usually we sign players that can hardly walk and who have been nowhere near first team. Anyway lets see how he does.

Far from harsh more a comment on the strength of the NRL.
Seriously doubt he is in the top 10 NRL second rowers in which case he's miles off the level he was 6 years ago. That's not a dig just the reality of the situation but he's still a very good player as any NRL regular generally is.

Can you stop yourself? It's been publicised and confirmed to me that the Sharks tried to get him to stay, even as late as last week, but he is an honourable man and told them that he'd committed to us and was intent on meeting that commitment. We have a star coming, a big, bright shining star. Rejoice, enjoy it and spread the word - WTW mean business once again!

| He last played for Australia in 2008 World Cup. Of course that is 7 years ago, but there are plenty of others that played with him that are still playing
Would we be happy with signing
Terry Campese, Joel Monaghan, Kurt Gidley
or maybe Israel Folau, Greg Inglis, Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Jonathan Thurston or Anthony Watmough.
He wasn't a bit part in that team either. Tupou played every game.

That is the most pleasing aspect for me because we have had talented players before whose heart wasn't in it.

| Sounds to me like some of the posters on here aren't happy that we have signed a dynamic running former international.
With an attitude that he's not coming over for a holiday.
His CV speaks for itself and if he had signed for on of the 'big' clubs, he probably would be in the top 5 imports for next season.
But of course this is Wakey and in their haste to offer him a lucrative deal, they have overlooked that Anthony Tupou is not a regular goal kicker also, so shame on Wakey for this 'middle of the road' signing.
Think some people need to get real.

Can't see where anyone has said that?
I get the impression all posters are happy with this one - just the proviso that he isn't the 2008 model so let's not overdo it - as I say a potentially brilliant signing.

So despite stating on every post what a great signing I think he is, that's not good enough for you. I have to join you in your deluded fantasy that the Tupou we are getting is the International of 7 years ago. This despite the obvious fact that he's now 31 (7 years older) and not selected since then. Added to this he's not played since a possible career ending injury this season which could still cause him problems as yet unknown.
Just because we have spent a bob or two is no reason to gloss over the truth - great player still? I'd venture a yes. International/Origin top 5 player in the world errr no.
It's pretty simple stuff really, sorry reality irks you

I was going to say fair do's on your edited post.
But you seem to be changing your tune with every post you write.
If we were getting the Tupou of 7 years ago, we wouldn't be anywhere near getting him.
As for top 5 international/ Origin player in the world, I never mentioned that, I mentioned that if he had signed for one of the 'big' clubs, he would be classed as one of the top 5 imports for next season.
