They cannot promote Toulouse unless they make the Grand Final.

....and up until that point you had posted several quite rational posts!
under the expansion clause they can do what the hell they like, celtic will tick hardly any boxes. london too, can you see them getting the boot?? Nope!
your assuming a level playing field here, it isnt.

| Quote: newwildcat "Think we are heading back to "my imaginary stadium is better than yours" debate. Addressing the OP's points - I believe this is the beginning of the end for one or perhaps both clubs. In the medium term I belive the only way we can guarantee a SL presence in the region is via merger. Ideally, I'd love to be watching WTW in a new shiny stadium in NM. However, I am a realist and I think the chances of that are slim to none. I know many of you traditionalists who have no doubt invested much more in WTW than I have will balk at the idea of supporting a merged team, but surely love of the game comes first. If it was a choice between merged team or no RL or worse watching the Rhinos I would watch the merged team without hesitation. I think many others would make the same choice and it may even bring new fans in to the game. As KK said the risk is that both sets of supporters would walk away, but with some financial incentive from the RL the storm could be weathered. I think supporters need to start seeing the bigger picture here and park up their egos and pride (hard as that is). In my view the best chance of preserving SL rugby in the Wakefield District is via merger and if it worked with the combined strength of the new club (both financially and in terms of the players which come up in the area) we could actually be competing with the big boys rather than limping along and continually being at the mercy of the RFL.
I know this goes against many fans principles but to me it's the only way. Having said that with the mindsets of both BoDs and the majority of fans, in practice I don't think it would ever get the stakeholder support it would need, so I fear the worst. We can't even agree to share a stadium FFS. Should have got our heads together years ago, but I'm going off at a tangent....'"
I don't believe that fans of both teams would walk away in sufficient numbers to destabilise the new entity; some would, but they'd be replaced.
Otherwise, spot on; I concur with everything you've said.

| Any true fan will say no to a merger no plastic fans please !!! And I dont understand Wakefield don't deserve help from the council why not LEIGH, HULL, SHEFFIELD all councils have helped thats why they are head and shoulders above Wakefield sporting wise and to be frank its pathetic how he may drive everything good sporting wise away from the City of WAKEFIELD how Mr Box is still in the job is beyond me. As someone who works in the Health industry I find his work appauling when it comes to sport. Wakefield Wildcats keeps this city on the map and if he decides Glasshoughton then we should go mad. I will still support us because Im wakey through and through and its not our fault its the councils why we haven't got a new ground and the fact its taken 25+ years.

| I couldn't bring myself to support "Wakefield Tigers" or whatever. It's Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. WAKEFIELD. Not Glasshoughton I am fed up with years of lies and sh*t from that pathetic excuse for a council and I can't believe anything proposed for Wakefield/Newmarket now. It sounds selfish and not very good sportsmanship but I would have to give up on the sport, even after watching Trinity play for many years. The RFL don't give a damn about the game itself, they just want clones of Wigan and Wire, big money clubs with fancy stadia.

| The problem with the thread is the same as the other one. Strong well balanced arguments, based on no facts.
It is just someone's thought on what might happen.
If you say - would you support a merged team or would you go to a stadium in another area to support your team - then it is just a survey of opinion.
BUT this post is implying that we are already there and its a do this or die decision.... just like NGB4C thread.
There is so much more to happen before we have to just give in and accept a team with no name. No one in any official capacity in RL or council has said we have to merge. A joint stadium frightens people but I really don't think there would be a problem.
If it came to it, I would fight a merger. I have seen no business case to say this would be better than two teams.
Joint stadium is fine, where ever it is. No need for anything else.

| I think the penny is beginning to drop. As a Fev fan I watch on with amusement as the next round of franchises approach.
First of all let's get something straight, Fev could be winning the Championship GF every year, playing in a 50000 all seater stadium, filling it and still WE WILL NEVER GET IN SL!
The RFL don't want us there and I doubt they want both you and Cas. If you get booted out (personally I think it will be Salford) then I doubt you will ever get back in under the Wakefield Wildcats name.
I also doubt a stadium will be started in time for the next round of franchises, wherever it ends up being built and your club and Cas did promise new stadiums as part of your franchise bid.
SL isn't all it's cracked up to be, the important thing is that your club keeps it's identity and a merger is exactly what the RFL want so tell them where to stick it and if it means you drop into the Championship so be it, you will enjoy the rugby that is played at that level if you take the SL blinkers off.
Good Luck.

The RFL can promote Toulouse, they just need to change the rules and I wouldn't put it past them. Interesting to see what happens with Crusaders who are not playing in South Wales, where their franchise was won. You can bet they will have their franchise set in stone which makes a mockery of the system put in place.

agree in some way but who wants to watch championship RL with 1500 or so folk in an empty stadium?? I dont anymore I had enough of that in the dark days of the early/mid 80s and then again pre SL
for me its simple no SL no RL for me enough is enough
I fear for Cas Wakey and Salford over the next 5 years stadium or no stadium if SL get their way we will all be replaced with big city clubs

I understand what you're saying. When SL was introduced I walked away from the sport disillusioned, but I'm back now and I go to watch an honest bunch of blokes put their bodies on the line in the name of sport. Yes it would be great to have thousands packed in to the ground but I get as much enjoyment watching the reserves with a hundred there, it's the team that keep me wanting to go back not the number of spectators on the terraces.
