Clubs like Trinity have no chance of winning the cup but a cumfy ride through to the semi final again would have given us a nice day out.'"
I would disagree. For a club such as ours the cup offers a better chance of silverware at the moment. To win SL requires consistency over 27 rounds plus playoffs. To win the cup you need a spot of luck in the draw and four or five one off great performances. Something which we are more than capable of.
Hopefully future seasons will see us gain that consistency to be able to challenge for the SL title.

| Think we have much more of a chance than Sheffield eagles - they could never win the cup.......................

| For teams like us the draw is the key thing
Even in 79 we didn't play anyone of note until Sts in the semi, and that was close.
A good draw to the semis and one good win can get you to Wembley. From there all bets are off.
Clearly the luck of the draw is not with us this year

I doubt if we could have more luck than we had when we reached the semi v Hull at Doncaster. To reach the final and win it we would need a draw so lop-sided that we met non Super League teams in both the semi AND the final.
I went to Wmbley last year to watch Wigan walk over Hull. THe game was so poor it made me think seeding similar to Wimbledon Tennis ought to be used to create a competative final.

The problem with seeding is you are making the semi and final interesting but every other game a walk over

| The beauty of the cup should be left alone you get who you get and get on with it the dream Will be back on if we get past the first hurdle and who is to say we cant?? You only have to look at the fa cup hull v sheff utd and nal v wigan in the semis who would have predicted wigan winning at man city

| All games to kick off at two to allow for the draw to be shown after the Huddersfield match.

We had to beat a strong Featherstone side at home in round 1.... Went to second division Oldham in rd 2 and sneaked past a very, very good Barrow side (that included some star RU converts) in the quarter final...
You and I don't remember the strength of the cup run in 79 the same way!
An equivalent draw today would see a home win against Hull in round 1, a second round win v Leigh away, a quarter final vs Castleford at home and a semi final win against Warrington . Resulting in a final against Leeds or Wigan.

| The final last eyar was very poor but neither side played well - if it were seeded you'd have had 2 v 6 which is as good as you could hope for really.
The 70-0 semi v London was the cringe for me

Well I was young in 79 but I was there and there is no doubt it was a great challenge cup campaign.
I just checked and I thought Featherstone and Barrow were in second division but they were relegated that year so clearly not the best teams. Oldham ended up middle of second division
So I agree with your comparison to Warrington and Leeds for semi and final but not the Hull or Cas ones

| I love the cc but its taken a back row seat . I'm left. Thinking would I prefer a good cup run against lower sides and poor gates or a pay out in the form of a home game against a side that will provide a reasonable crowd. The arguments are would it be better to get a few games under our belt and reach a semi or focus on the day to day bread and butter. I think the hand we have been dealt this seasons for the best
