Think it's odds-on.
He was hypothetically asked the question last week by Claire Balding in Paris and in as many words said it would be impossible to turn down.
It has obviously been known in certain circles for a while that Smith would be going after this series,so it begs the question with Danny B and that is: Is he waiting to see what happens with JK before he makes his mind up with a new contract?

| It would appear the entire population of Castleford is behind John Kear getting the Job but only if he resigned from the job at Wakefield.

| appointing Kear would also cost the RFL a few bob as he has just signed a two year contract.

| Scrapping promotion and relegation will become the biggest mistake of all time. The previous poster was right, British sport is based on winners and losers an what chance of lower teams got of increased revenue if they never get to play the big clubs?
Also, what is the point of playing an entire season with nothing at the end of it? Unfortunately teams with the better business plans are granted promotion rather than teams on merit. Eventually all the sides outside Super League will cease to exist professionally, and reduce the amount of players we have to pick from even more. The gap will only get wider.

100% behind that coment, but not just because you would be screwed as a club without JK, He is the only english coach that is worth his salt and we dont want another aussie incharge of the english side. But look on the bright side if he got the job you would get a payout and you could be friends with the taxman again, but the main reason i would like JK to get the job is because he is a cas lad. KEAR FOR ENGLAND

| Iwould doubt that John would be in the running for the job ... coaching Englend is something he has done before and to be honest... he is probably too old for the job...
RL is seen as a young mans sport and the powers that be are more likely to go for a young (ish) coach... probably antipodean...
Morgan must be an option, Macnamara is already in the team as 2IC in reality I would like to see Shaun Edwards return to the game... he is now a proven coach and manager of men and his pedigree in the game is without peer!

Too old?'"
I am speaking from a cultural persrective rather than a personal view...
Australia has a completely different culture in coaching... and invest a lot of time, money and effort in supporting and developing the coaching structure.
Guys like Sheens and Bennett have coached premiership winning teams year after year and taken and proven their skills for club to club. With the best will in the world John hasnt done that.. he has occasionally taken a team of rag tag and bobtails to a shock cup win... otherwise he has spent much of his career at lesser clubs (head coach) and bigger clubs as assistant..
That said he has been fantastic for Wakefield guiding the steady development of the playing side of the club... in all honesty Wakefield need John and John needs Wakefield, it is a rugby marriage that is perfect, separation could be terminal for both.

Macnamara who managed to get his hi-performance outfit to ninth?Or Shaun Edwards who hasn't coached seriously in league.hmmmm, let me think?
