| Quote PopTart="PopTart"If your only measure of success is us winning 3 challenge cups and 2 league championships then no we are never going to get a crowd.
But other teams manage it without that success.
For me, we will lift our crowd slightly with a decent mid table finish but I don't think it would go higher even with a run in playoffs till the facilities are better.

Well it's a sobering thought that since the '66/67 season we have finished in the top 4 only 3 times!! Not once since we came back up in '98, even those 2 5th place finishes seem like ages ago now, it was a shame we couldn't somehow build on those but hey ho. I want to thank MC for all he's done, I haven't agreed with everything obviously, but there was no doubting his dedication and commitment to the cause, I wish him all the best. Certainly interesting times ahead for sure.....

| Quote Sacred Cow="Sacred Cow"Thanks for all the hard work MC but this is the right call. New blood is needed and i hope the announcement is due to having irons in the fire.
Or maybe he's seen the IMG criteria today, thinks we are screwed and has run for the hills.'"
No way would he run for the hills .Mr Carter wiped a 2 million pound det out when he took over the club, .and as been keeping us alive for the last 9 years .When he goes there will be a stadium in stead of a ground not fit for purpose .The guy as been shafted by Wakfield Council ,a Cowboy building firm, a ex Chairman and as still got us a stadium .Know he would have been able to do a job in the champions ,if as it is looking we end there .All the best Mr Carter in retirement ,you will be remembered as a Chairman who gave is all to the club ,and played fair .Not a lot of Chairmen in S L can say that .A big loss and thanks for everything

| He leaves the club in much better shape that it was originally in.
Thank you MC. Let’s hope we continue to run a tight ship financially even after he has stepped away.

| Our gratitude to MC for his tenacity and acumen and pure energy (as well as cash injection of course) should he undoubted.
He has demonstrated to all that he is without doubt a fine company administrator. Second to none.
Whilst enormously grateful I too think his exit will pave the way for new blood and ideas, and quite possibly cash.
Some may disagree, but MC is a polarising character who may just have scared some backers away with his bedside manner let’s say.
His exit may now allow something different to happen. JM is still at the helm to provide that steadying influence, so best of luck to the board in finding MC’s replacement.

I get your point and I've heard that from a lot of people, though I can't say I've ever experienced it, but then I am very thick skinned.
However I don't think it was always so - up until the Chris Chester leaving era he was very open and approachable, after that less so, more guarded and less involved or so it seemed from a fans perspective. No point getting too deep but what happened to CC got to him imo and rightly so because it got really nasty. I don't know the full story but if it got to him that much, and why wouldn't it, then as you say it's possibly the right decision for us all. If your hearts no longer in it and all that.
Wouldn't surprise me that after a good long break he didn't reappear in some for, once inside you Trinity is a hard thing to let go.
Anyway, my last word on the subject, tomorrow is a new day.

New people and casual fans want to follow a team who are at least in with a shout of competing in the play-offs or getting to Wembley. It's become a yearly certainty reading about us being the relegation favourites in pre-season predictions. Nobody is going to read that and say, "I can't wait to give watching Wakey a go this season. I might even convince a few more to come along".
The improvement in facilities may increase footfall, it may not. What will really increase footfall is consistent, solid home performances, following up good away wins with home wins, and a string of seasons when we're not trying to survive in the last few games. It's telling that even mid-table mediocrity looks appealing right now.
Michael Carter was in a predicament. He wanted to balance the books but this left no money for investment in the team. The only way he could invest in the team was by getting attendances up. The only way to get attendances up was by investing in the team. And round and round in "relegation favourites" circles we go.

I think that sums us up perfectly. We attracted some good players under Kear/Chester, Kear left and then one by one, so did the players.
I think fans got fed up of hearing the same very season........we need more through the gates. You will not get more through the gates with a budget team.
At some point you have to take a risk......and as far as I'm aware........that never came.
Good luck to MC however. Thankless task and his health will be better for it away from the club.

| Huge, huge thanks MC, without you, there may not have been a Wakefield Trinity and certainly not a Wakefield Trinity in SL.
Every fan wants their club to spend, spend, spend and to be successful and MC has copped a fair bit of stick over the years for "not doing more".
However, what he has done for the club has been superb.
From total basket case, in an old shabby ground, to one of the best run clubs in SL and all on a relative shoe string and finally, a "new" stadium to enjoy.
Things look way, way better than they did 10 years ago. Thank you !

Classic catch 22.
The issue, as always is, how do you speculate without the "spare" cash to "gamble" on success ?
Like you, I would love to see more promotion of the club but, equally, when a certain Mr Glover spent big and increased attendances, things ended very, very badly.
Euromillions anyone ?

Although attendances increased under Glover, weren't they all free-loaders who walked in through Cats Bar without paying and as soon as they stopped that, attendances went down again ??
Anyway, without wishing to de-rail the thread, I would also like to express my profound thanks to MC for your outstanding efforts over the past 10 years in keeping our club alive and making it a more appealing proposition than the basket case that we were before your tenure at the helm. Regardless of what the future holds for us, I will be forever grateful to you for your blood, sweat and tears and wish you well in your retirement

| Would be nice if we could keep him on on a part time retainer basis to keep his knowledgeable eye on " The books", perhaps he has passed some of his fiscal know how on to JM.
