| Quote Fishermanscap="Fishermanscap"It’s all about opinion but your certainly not watching the same player as me.
He’s 28 if I remember rightly, what is interesting is that as far as I can tell he’s never played NRL which is a concern but the JDdidnt either so who knows.
On the plus side he’s way better than Hirst and a crocked England on the minus he’s overseas. That said if he isn’t NRL trained does he count, I don’t know I’m just asking.'"
And that's partly why I wouldn't sign him. I'd have thought there may be a better import but I don't know what wages they would want compared to a bloke that's played in the championship for most of his career. Also, Kyle Amor is past his best and Saints fans haven't seemed too enamoured with him in the last season or so.
Fifita
Kopzcak
Tangata
Amor
That would be the props in your 17 man squad if what people are saying int erms fo signings is correct. Do I think that's any better than last season? No. Not really. I'm sure they will do a half-decent job but it depends if all you want is half-decent. There must be some decent props kicking around the championship that would be younger and hungrier than Amor. Although, suppose it's difficult if they are contracted already e.t.c

Again can't agree, we've had some real dross through the years who've played loads of NRL, whilst some who never got near have been great.
I give you JD, Sam Obst, Jacob Miller and David Fifita to name a few. You may or may not think him good enough that's your prerogative but historically you way off the mark in my opinion as regards his playing history, it often counts for nothing, it's far more the case that some players just fit and only CC can really be in a position to judge that.
That said no point any of us getting hot under the collar because as yet he's not signed

There are ALWAYS exceptions to the rule. Adam Tangata is absolutely no David Fifita. David Fifita also had games at first team level for an NRL side. Jacob Miller played significant amount of super league before moving to Wakefield. I won't be disappointed if we sign Tangata... I just don't think it improves us.

| Quote Kirmudgeonly="Kirmudgeonly"With the complex nature and seemingly ever-changing overseas quota rules, it’s sometimes difficult to work out how many overseas players are able to play for each club in Super League. There are loopholes galore, with some overseas players exempt based on where they played several years ago or whether they possess an EU passport, for example. Macgraff Leuluai is a Kiwi for all intents and purposes, but was born in Britain whilst his father, James, was playing for Wakefield. He is therefore exempt from the overseas quota, despite spending most of his life living in New Zealand. His current side Widnes raised eyebrows for their Challenge Cup quarter final game against Warrington in June, when nine of their match day 17 weren’t born in Britain.'"
Doesn't Leuluai count as Non Fed trained though? so counts as part of the Non fed/overseas 7 you're allowed. If he doesn't then I admit defeat, I don't get the rules.

| I would say Tangata has shown in his short stay, more than Hirst did in his two or three season stint.
A full season of full time training and Tangata might be a totally different player.

I agree about Tangata. He's just what we need.
You can't have a team of Fifitas.
Have to balance styles and costs.

Tangata would be a great signing if he was a British Prop, with him being Overseas it puts a bit of a different slant on it imo
I agree he looks a more athletic and well rounded player than Hirst and MIGHT improve in a full time environment but then again I thought Hirst would, but on on a the whole I don't think he made much of an improvement tbh so you never know.
ATEOTD it's all about what else is out there and what money they want, if Tangata is the best available for our budget, he's the best available.

Well we will never know unless we sign him and that applies to all new signings.
It’s funny and I have no idea if you were one but Dave’s signing was greeted with a great deal of derision when we signed him. Poor mans Andrew and total flop in the NRL and fat to boot according to many, so at the time Dave was every bit a no David Fifita! His home debut was also one of the worst I’ve ever seen. Ditto Miller who was frankly dreadful to start with and was not considered a good player by most. So I’m not sure how you can be so sure tbh.
Finally like it or not money still counts for us, we have better players than ever but they don’t come cheap and I wouldn’t think we have much wiggle room. NRL players don’t come cheap, in fact they rarely come at all these days. There are very few of these players available to SL these days and those who are go where the money is.
My contention is that Tangata is one of the better quota players available, available being the key word for me.
Anyway none of us will have any say and thank the lord for that.
