| I've seen the incident and there was no need to shove the ref like he did,he could easily have moved him by putting his hand on his right shoulder a bit of frustration crept in I'm afraid.Hope learns from it.

| Whether fans like it or not. JT knows not to push the ref, particularly in the manner he did. It was petulant and unnecessary. Whilst it's tough for fans to swallow, he deserves the ban.

And yet when he wants to he can run at top speed and sidestep on a six pence.
He could have got out of the way.

| I remember when Dave Watson from Bradford was brought in front of the disciplinary board and was appealing against a late tackle.
He has the Bradford legal eagles there and they showed the move in slow motion from lots of different angles to show he could not have possibly pulled out of the tackle in time.
One of our ex players (the greatest in fact)was there as they used to invite them along as an "informed" judge for these decisions then.
He asked the video techi to run the tape back to the try the Watson had scored previously. Of course running at full speed he did his trademark last second body swerve and side step. He got past the guy un touched and scored.
The point well made was that when you want to, you can move quickly to avoid someone, why not when it is a tackle, or more so when it is a far less speedy referee.
Appeal failed. He was banned.
I have no sympathy for the defence of "he backed in to me". He could have moved, he chose not to and tried to "move" the ref.
Take your ban and move on.

Couldn't agree more - I've just watched the footage and it was far from a simple 'coming together' due to Roby backing in to Tansey; Roby was back-pedalling and Tansey put two hands into his back and pushed with sufficient force to snap Roby's head back and forward, whiplash style; wouldn't surprise me if he hasn't been in touch with a no-win no-fee compensation vulture already.
Defending this one is as ridiculous and desperate as say, defending Rangi Chase for his act of outright thuggery against Tangi Ropati.

comparing those two incidents is outrageous to say the least.
I'm not defending Tansey, I still think he was unlucky to be in that position, yet agree the force he used was unneccesary.
I'm discussing what the cncensus is on whether the ramifications are in line with the offence, and indeed other Grade C charges

| There are certain elements of Rugby League which should forever remain sacrosanct and making contact with an official is one of them. I think Tansey deserved his ban and I don't beleive it's harsh, however even if it was harsh I'd be happy to live with it because it sends out a strong message.
Questioning officials should also be overtly reinforced in order to send a strong message to players and coaches.

| Having seen this incident I can't believe people are defending Jordan Tansey. Ffirst of all, he shoves the ref with sufficient force to, like somebody has already said, force his neck back whiplash style. Secondly, the referee is travelling at such a pace that Tansey could easily have avoided him. Thirdly, Tansey was stood in a position where he was aware before the incident that the referee was travelling towards him. He made a conscious decision to shove him with force, rather than step aside or simply grab a hold of the referee to move him cautiously to the side.
In short, the shove seemed a lot more aggressive than it had to be and could have hurt the ref. I think the ban was the correct length and severity of punishment for the incident. You cannot do what Tansey did in the nature that he did it.

I'm not comparing the incidents - I'm comparing the defence of the indefensible.
There is nothing 'unlucky' about this incident nor is there anything disproportionate about the punishment; one thing that has always been a badge of pride in RL is respect for the officials - although that has been eroded in recent years thanks to the whinging and whining of certain players, this was a significant step over the line and a message has to be sent out.
Any player who is malicious or downright thick enough to push a ref deserves everything he gets - apart from the support of one-eyed fans who cry foul, knowing full well that if he played for a rival club, they'd advocate a lynching.
