| According to the latest info on the Goverment website re the covid 19 jab, the jab does not actually prevent you getting covid; you can still get infected, but it can stop you getting seriously ill if you do get the virus. They also state that at the present time, they do not know if it stops you passing on the virus if you become infected.although they say experts do expect it to reduce the risk. Looks like the restrictions / lockdowns are not going to be lifted anytime soon then.

I got the Oxford/AstraZeneca one and not going to lie, it has left me feeling slightly unwell (Probably me just been soft, I am sure Try scorer would be right in this case
I've read that having slight side effects is a sign that the vaccine is working - similar to the flu vaccine when they say you might have slight headaches, aching arm, etc., for a day or so - it shows the vaccine is fighting what it is meant to do. It was mentioned in the current issue of Private Eye by their medical correspondent MD (Dr. Phil Hammond, usually talking sense from my point of view)

That is correct. I remember having a jab for Typhoid I think as a kid and that really hurt, knocked my dad out for a few days. That was the early 1970’s and I’m sure it’s now more refined but the principle is the same. I assume it has to cause a reaction to work.

I caught typhoid twice in Africa I had the jabs thought I was immune like you would but actually the typhoid jab is only 70%ish for immunity. Typhoid is not pleasant I can vouch for that!

Agreed, imagine the Northern indignation if it were the other way around, we do tend to want it both ways.

Didn’t know you could get it twice, ouch!
We had it because incredibly we were stopping off at Karachi airport to re-fuel. We were never going to leave the terminal but it was that rife we had too.
We also had jabs for cholera and Smallpox, neither of which are routine now. Smallpox has been eradicated or close too and some still say vaccines don’t work. As you say they are not perfect but they give us a fighting chance.

Yeah first time was an indication I had had it after I had been sick for a week recovered and gone back to work and got tested for Cholera and Malaria, the second time it was confirmed again in terrible pain in a UN clinic hooked up to a drip in the middle of Africa , I was due to fly home as my first grand child was due so I had planned flights, Typhoid is a notifiable disease so I could not travel as planned until I was negative. Eventually got home and had more tests in the UK.

There must be still plenty to go round up here, me and the Mrs had our first jab this afternoon, we only go the call yesterday from Lupset Surgery, all done in a little over 24 hours. Must be looking after us lot from Lupset.
