Keep franchises out of our game: |
|
| It was Agar who went to the media and gave an interview effectively saying the player's were not good enough and the club didn't have enough money for him to be a successful coach. He deserves to be slagged off. He didn't have what it takes to get the best out of the players at his disposal .

| What concerned me most from his boots n all interview yesterday was the line 'the team will need rebuilding again for next season'. Now obviously there is a need for some improvements in certain areas but there is plenty of talent already in the squad, it's just that he was incapable of getting them to play to their full potential. I would say there is more of a need of adding some quality players in some positions and adding a little depth along with re-signing a few of the current squad. I wouldn't say we particularly need to 'rebuild' again at this point but add to what we already have. If we are having to mass recruit yet again then why, is there about to be another raft of player departures, including some under contract that we would rather keep?

Easy to say will not need rebuild, how many have deals inplace elsewhere already?
Some of the players maybe just filled a possible gap in there employment, some maybe looking to improve position.
Think the Tautai thing was released a little earlier than expected and some other deals may already be done, it is 'contract window' everywhere that sees itself secure.
Some players are getting better deals at a lower level and if they are just worried about the money rather than testing themselves, this is an easier option.
I fear your last sentence maybe closer to the position we are in.

It's therefore a bit distasteful to keep attacking the bloke in a personal way; let it go and get behind the new bloke?'"
I can see that st some point he would want to have his say, i don't agree with most of what he's said, but thats his perogative.
Equally based on what he has said its not hard to understand people having a view on it.
Now its all done and when the dust settles, we can put it all to bed.
No more Agar threads...what will we all do????

| If Agars going to Warrington then surely there's an opportunity to bring Willie Poching over as our new coach. He's Wakefield through and through, still lives in Wakefield and is far more experienced than Webster, Morrison or Demetriou

Poching has no experience as a head coach though, the other three do.

You don't really think Warrington want RA as their coach do you? Assistant maybe but not the head coach

Does he know that players are contracted elsewhere for next season or is he just summising (sp)?

Apart from Webster neither Morrison or Demetriou have any experience of coaching at the level required for SL and the difference is massive. I'm not saying they're not or won't ever be capable at that level but they're a bigger gamble than Poching.
Webster has learned his trade at the heel of Agar while Poching has had several years with Tony Smith at both Leeds Rhinos and Warrington.
I know which of the four I'd rather gamble on

We have had a thread on who is OOC at the end of the season.
When he has used the 'rebuilt' quote, could this mean that Webster has his own ideas of who he wants to keep?
To me he is deflecting the fact that Webster may not want RA's signings that are coming off contract.
The list that was provided, only Ali, Tautai, Walshaw, Moore and possibly Wildie and Raleigh were thought of as re-signs.
Tautai has gone, Ali May retire, the others may sign now the coach has changed.

Don't get me wrong i'd have no problem will Poching in charge but the difference between being an assistant and head coach is just as marked as the difference between head coach positions in superleague & the championship. None of the above names mentioned come with any real relative experience to become our coach but we had to take punt as we can't afford a bigger name. Webster is the man now in charge and i'm willing to give him an opportunity to see what he can do. He does though need to appoint an assistant who is capable of tightening up the defence.
And in the case of Morrison it is immaterial for now anyway, he's just signed a new two year contract at Dewsbury.

Think Peter Smith must be big buddies with Agar after reading this? Agar is not in the same league as Daryl Powell as a coach. On paper he has a squad that should be competitive every game but it isn't.
'In his final few weeks at the club Agar came under increasing pressure from fans, who claimed he had taken the club as far as he could and a change was needed. Clearly Agar felt the same way, though criticism of his performance as team boss is unfair.
From a coaching point of view, Wakefield is one of the toughest gigs in the British game and his league record of played 69, won 27, lost 41, drawn one is reasonable under the circumstances.'
The supporters just want a team that plays with fire in their belly even if they lose every week but apparently that makes it a 'tough gig'. Agar did not know his best 2 out of the 4 pivots signed never mind his best 17 and was too light in the centres which should have been looked at in stead of pursuing Siejka.
