Wherever we end up in the league next season will not determine the competition we're playing in the season after. What we manage to build in the meantime will. If we have a season where we manage to unearth a couple of gems, maybe, and a handful of decent squad players, AND we get a license, we could hit Newmarket with the basis of a solid squad and be in a position to buy in the kind of players who will put bums on seats. Got to be worth it in the long term, hasn't it?

If we knew we were going to get provisional approval for the stadium and some mystery benefactor was about to shell out 160K to pay our tax bill, we might have been in the market for, and able to entice the kind of players you'd like to see play for us. Whether they would have given more and been any better than some guy playing for his future is debatable. Why would we swap? Surely we would keep Blaymire as number 1 and have Slater as 4th choice full back behind the others.

it baffles me this signing, I ain't a anti Kear fan as I'll stand by the 'he was the best coach at the time' but I just don't understand why he keeps signing previous players that he was worked with,
a pay as you play contract does justify his arrival but has he played other roles than full back ?

Tony is tough as teak Nicknamed Coconut Head by the Kiwi team, can play hooker, halfback, loose forward, or fullback (but i doubt he will get a run there these days.

Given the nature of the contract I think it is a reasonable deal, he takes no quota spot and need only be used if he proves himself and so only gets paid if he proves he is worth it.

Cant see a problem personally. Its a no lose situation for Trinity.
