| Quote: Scarlet Pimpernell "Quote: Scarlet Pimpernell "We are not in a position to lose a player like Murphy. Why would a club buy him now he is out of contract at the end of the season and a club like Saints can wait, the situation may be different if they thought we had the ability between now and May to agree a new contract, I guess they don’t.
I regret the reality is that our squad is not strong or in the whole experienced, sorry but that is a fact even though some remain in denial. I have said before we need to survive, we have pushed our luck to a point that some on here believe we are immune to relegation we are not. We can continue on a Championship budget but our chances to progress would be fatally flawed.'" '"
Lol. I thought you'd jump on this one.
He's in contract for next season.
It isn't a fact that the squad isn't strong or experienced. That's just your opinion. It may be true at the end of the season. But it isn't a fact yet.
And it's also ironic that you say we are not experienced enough but want us to retain a player with less than a seasons worth of games to remedy it.
We have no idea what he was on, what the new offer is, whether he will accept a better offer or whether he just wants to go after next season.
He certainly can't not play well on purpose as some have implied as he'll do his next contract in with Sts. Ritson will be aiming to rip up trees this season to convince them he's their guy.

| I find it strange how Corey Hall has signed a 2 year deal, with good young British centres being as rare as hens teeth, yet Murphy has not. Both Hall and Murphy have the same agent too. I commented a couple of month back regarding Murphy’s future with his agent SMTMUK making a comment regarding Murphy’s future looking elsewhere.

If Saints offer blows us out of the water then there's little MC/JM can do, I just hope it's not marginal. We do suffer from Players Agents seeing us as a staging point and shop window.
Less then a year ago many of us were on SM telling the lad to keep his chin up, that we were all right behind him and to move on from that nightmare debut v Leeds. If only he'd slowed that improvement down a bit.
Yes I know. I'll get my coat.

Quote: PopTart "Quote: PopTart "Apparently Lewis Dodd is out of contract.
I'd happily do a swap if Murph wants to go. https://www.saintsrlfc.com/2022/06/14/s ... -contract/
Saints have off contract this year; Matty Foster, Konrad Hurrell, Sione Mata'utia, James Roby, Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, Dan Norman, Sam Royle, Lewis Baxter, James Bell, Daniel Hill, Will Hopoate, Curtis Sironen, Jake Wingfield, Taylor Pemberton, Jumah Sambou, Mckenzie Buckley.
There’s also Ritson whose loan contract expires.
Of these, Saints have an option on Sironen and Hopoate (though I, along with the majority of the fan base are hoping the latter doesn’t get exercised, or rather he has to do a lot this year to make it even a consideration).
You then have Roby and LMS whom are both expected to retire., and I doubt Saints would send them away for their final year (though we did do it with Amor, so it’s possible LMS could be moved on, especially as he faces a lot of competition for his spot, with George Delaney being called up to England Knights before establishing himself in our first team, and Norman being in the final year of his contract, and him graduating the same education Bentley and Batchelor went through).
Hurrell, Mata’utia and Bell round out the senior players in the list, and their decisions will dictate how much recruitment we need to do vs how much we can focus on nice to haves in our squad.
Wingfield and Norman are both excellent backup props for us, but as mentioned above Delaney is pushing his way through the ranks and both need to really lay claim to a starting spot (though Wingfield could also replace Bell as a back up lock). Baxter is also a young prop, but seems much further away from being picked than the others.
That leaves the kids. Royle is an excellent leader, having captained the club at every age group when he captained the first team over Easter vs Castleford last year. Ended the year on loan to HKR and seemed to impress but not sure what his path to being a genuine first team option is, as he lacks a bit of size and presence for a forward. Pemberton is apparently heir apparent alongside Lussick to replace Roby but that is a huge jump for him to have to make. Buckley, Sambou and Hill all played games for us last year and Buckley and Sambou could possibly feature more regularly next year too (Bruines joining us most likely blocks Hill from game time).
As I said, Saints were happy to negotiate, and I could have seen something like Norman + Royle going in exchange for Murphy, but there was no negotiation to be had.

| With some players it's not all about money. The likes of Saints and Wigan offer a player a good chance of winning cups/titles. Sometimes this is as much, if not more of a draw.
