He's in contract for next season.

It isn't a fact that the squad isn't strong or experienced. That's just your opinion. It may be true at the end of the season. But it isn't a fact yet.

And it's also ironic that you say we are not experienced enough but want us to retain a player with less than a seasons worth of games to remedy it.

We have no idea what he was on, what the new offer is, whether he will accept a better offer or whether he just wants to go after next season.
He certainly can't not play well on purpose as some have implied as he'll do his next contract in with Sts. Ritson will be aiming to rip up trees this season to convince them he's their guy.

I find it strange how Corey Hall has signed a 2 year deal, with good young British centres being as rare as hens teeth, yet Murphy has not. Both Hall and Murphy have the same agent too. I commented a couple of month back regarding Murphy’s future with his agent SMTMUK making a comment regarding Murphy’s future looking elsewhere.

Baxter is also a young prop, but seems much further away from being picked than the others. That leaves the kids. Royle is an excellent leader, having captained the club at every age group when he captained the first team over Easter vs Castleford last year. Ended the year on loan to HKR and seemed to impress but not sure what his path to being a genuine first team option is, as he lacks a bit of size and presence for a forward. Pemberton is apparently heir apparent alongside Lussick to replace Roby but that is a huge jump for him to have to make. Buckley, Sambou and Hill all played games for us last year and Buckley and Sambou could possibly feature more regularly next year too (Bruines joining us most likely blocks Hill from game time). As I said, Saints were happy to negotiate, and I could have seen something like Norman + Royle going in exchange for Murphy, but there was no negotiation to be had.

With some players it's not all about money. The likes of Saints and Wigan offer a player a good chance of winning cups/titles. Sometimes this is as much, if not more of a draw.
