So I stick by what I said, for me it’s better same as it hopefully will be with Murphy and Eseh etc.
PS: if we were signing Cameron Munster then maybe but I think that’s unlikely
I wasn't criticising your viewpoint ... just adding my own thoughts and perspectives
seems to that each wave of young players is slightly better prepared than the previous stream (I think reserve grade football has been important in that, plus the option of loan spells at other clubs).. that players like Murphy and Shaw are able to step up with confidence and understanding. and be able to shine is testament to the set up at the club...
I'll stick my neck out now (ready for death by a thousand cutting remarks) and suggest that the types of player that would fit our strategy and style would be
Half back/ dummy half - Fa’amanu Brown (quota)
Middle - Marty Tapau (quota)
Middle - Robbie Mulhern
Edge Forward - Oliver Holmes
Utility forward - Elijah Taylor (quota)
and I would take a punt on the young French player Corentin Le Cam (who is out of contract. I believe)... to see how he blossoms (or not) in the reserve grade system
plus Jamie Shaul if we can sort out the benefit year thing
Promote Pratt and Roberts from the academy
replacing Johnstone, Tupou, Lineham (if possible and replace him with Evans), Fifita, Arona, Miller, Batchelor, Walker, Aydin, Adebayi, and Minns

I also mentioned Brown a week or two ago. Could be a definite option and was previously at Fev then went back to NRL for 2022.
I’d be fine with all those above tbh though I’d like us to re-sign Shaw and Croft for 2023.
Not so sure on Taylor tbh.
I notice that Leeds are wanting Hardaker so there may be a deal to be done if there’s a Leeds player Apelgarth has an eye on.
I definitely think youth is important so would be happy to see another 1/2 promoted.

I watched Brown come through the ranks at the Sharks then was disappointed to see him drift into obscurity at the Bulldogs… I only read recently that his lack of form was due to a foot injury which was only diagnosed and operated upon just prior to his joining Fev… apparently he had been advised to stop playing at the time!
I think he has the X factor but is a great tactician… but I do know he returned to Australia for personal reasons.
Great player though will be cheering him on for Samoa

Two very similar players TBH, though Shaw has a bigger frame,
Your key youngster for me is Eseh. I wasn’t sure at first, a bit big lad playing in a kids game.
But then he went on loan. Did a good at Barrow as you might expect. But totally shone at Fev. When you think that their are only four places between us and them that’s some going. I know it’s not quite that simple but you get the idea.
He deserved his award. In every game I watched he made yards, tackled well and above all made off loads. They didn’t all work but none were disasters, he wasn’t foolish.
He’s 19! The above would be impressive if he were 25. There are not many of his sort coming through in the SL. If he does breakthrough this season he needs signing every bit as much as Murphy.
If he does reach his potential he’s far rarer than Lewis and IMO has even more value. I’d move heaven and earth to keep both but imo you can build a team around a forward with those skills.
Obviously a way to go yet, all I’m saying is if it’s potential then for me he’s the one.

| I met Corey face to face for the first time at the last game of the season.
Even though I know his age it still shocks me how young he is
Opposition must think they have an easy game against a kid when they line up but he certainly proves otherwise.
Plenty of time to develop further. I hope we see him represent England while playing for Wakefield.

| To be honest Poptart it’s a crying shame and confusing how Hall isn’t in the Knights team this year.
When you have Broadbent and a couple of young Warrington backs too i can’t see how he doesn’t at least get in the knights squad.

If you listen to his interview he suggest he had a chance but couldn’t as he was carrying an injury

I haven’t got round to watching it yet so thank you for that update.
How cruel that both Murphy and Hall who would likely have been a shoe in for knights both picked up injuries at the end of season/last game.
The good thing is that with what seems a higher focus on internationals moving forward that if players continue to play well there will be more opportunities.

For them it was unfortunate, for us it's probably a good thing. This is especially so with Hall who hade he had a good Knights game would have been of even more interest to others.
That said I think Hall is a smart cookie and sees that a decent two year deal with us and time with his main RL mentor can only improve him.
He also did himself a great favour by playing well in a few games in the SR. To be honest I thought it was a stupid idea and not necessary at the time and still do. But right or wrong I can't deny that he handled it extremely well for such a slight lad so he's pretty tough and adaptable. You have a young player who you know can play centre well but is capable of moving into the pack later in his career should he wish to, that is quite a bargaining tool.

| Absolutely not mentioned in tomorrow’s League Express! But they did share about Sam Eseh “will complete for a place a place in a pack that will also include Australian prop Jai Whitbread, who recently penned a contract extension through to 2025.”
So maybe we will read about Corey in the next few weeks.
