| Quote: The Phantom Horseman "Seriously, the slope isn't that big a deal. I did a check a couple of seasons ago and there were more points scored by home & away going uphill than downhill, and the slope has been levelled off to a degree since then. Now the hill at Batley, that's a different matter....'"
I suspect it doesn’t cause a problem most of the time because for the last 20 years it’s mostly been played on in summer. I’d be interested to know pre-SL stats. I actually played on that pitch circa 1980 in some sort of trial training game when I was 16 (long story). Wasn’t even as bad as yesterday but I remember it being almost impossible to stop any of the bigger lads once they had some momentum down hill. Just could’t get any leverage or footing, even tackling low as was the fashion of the time only seemed to end up with you hanging onto their feet as they slid over the line.
Now I’m sure it can be mastered but you’d presume that the Fev lads are the ones more likely to do it - playing on it regular as they do.
Obviously it’s not an excuse for everything that goes wrong for a visiting team but it is a factor you don’t come across in SL.
Our pitch is like a bowling green by comparison yet it’s probably the most uneven surface in SL since all the new stadiums kicked in. I suppose it sounds snobby but we are just not used to it.

Fair points. The other thing to add in is that the pitch is now a fair bit longer than had been the case prior to last season - it still surprises me every time I come to the ground, it looks enormous now! One thing that's certain, playing there was anything but an advantage for Fev last year - we had a far better record away from home than at Post Office Road last year - we beat Bradford, Halifax, London and Dewsbury away, but were stuffed by those teams at home.

| Quote: W.T.W "Definitely a game for our fitness yesterday - but some players did stand out for me.
Tinirau Arona - Impressed with him in both games. Looks likes hes going to be a good signing for the club. Strong, mobile and got a good passing game. Moving out to the edge to give the overlap for Gibson's try was a good passage of play.
Max Jowitt - Needs to build up his confidence and but hes got natural talent and speed and did well to back up Hall for the winning try and already looks like he could step up to be a regular player.
Jordan Crowther - Not sure if he came back on, but in the first half he was my MOM. His defence yesterday was brilliant and considering his age, he isn't scared to knock a few blokes about. Hopefully he will get
some more game time this year.'" . Jordan damaged his ear drum in the first half and they didn't risk him in the second,I also thought his defence was good, hopefully he'll get to play against big misters to get him hardened to bigger knocks, but thanks for the compliment I'll pass it on.There's also a nice piece on him in the league Express regarding rookies for the new season which can't be bad for Wakey.

Make sure you play them when it’s wet this season, going by yesterday you certsinly know how to master the conditions.

We were hammered 24-4 by London at home last year in even worse conditions, and about half of our team were playing their first-ever game at Post Office Road yesterday (well, for Fev anyway).

| When was the last time a Trinity side went in at half time down on points and then kept the home team to zero in
the second half and won.

I agree. After last season I'm enjoying winning a few games again. That's 3 on the bounce including the MPG. It's a nice feeling to win even if they are just friendlies. And I'm sure it's helping the players get through pre season seeing their hard work pay off.

Exactly, you can only play whats in front of you - the team didn't need to win the game but they did. Showed a certain level of pride, the exact opposite of last year which can only be a positive.
We probably still have weaknesses, bound to considering our budget etc. However collectively we look stronger and for us thats the only way IMHO.

| Quote: Wakefield No 1 "They played with a lot better attitude in the second half which is what you are looking for in pre season friendlies, that is what was so disappointing about the first half, most of the players today will have to fight to get into the 17 against Widnes and I'd struggle to name one in the first 40 who put his name forward! I'm sure Brian told them this at half time, hence an improvement in attitude if not exactly technique in the second half...'"
Glad you have Brian ear, no really.
Why the hell do you want players to go full pelt in a friendly and risk injury, fowhat! Bragging rights over an understrength Fev team. I mean seriously do you really think that's how BS or any coach picks a team. Unreal. You'll be banging on about passion and pride in the shirt next.

Someone told me that the injury was sustained as a result of his dad shouting at him trying to wake him up for early morning training.

| How the hell anybody expected us to play well in that yesterday has something missing. It was a slog fest with a wet muddy ball on a wet muddy field a leveler. The game was riddled with errors from both teams. Thought fev run harder than us in the first half and had much more possession due to our inability to keep hold of it. What is annoying at any level is dive over tries from dummy half that's just not being switched on. One of the tries on halls side they just never got off the line so we're never going to stop them.it's about fitness and getting the lungs blowing the result is pretty irrelevant

If you're talking not being switched on then the one where nobody was behind the play the ball, kids stuff. Great thing about friendlies is to get those out of the system. I prefer friendlies where you struggle. If we were to have beaten Leeds and Fev easy and then do the same to Cas we'd think we were world beaters, human nature. However we'd get a rude awakening against Widnes if we played the first real game at Friendlies pace. Which is pretty much how we played all of last season.

I said this to my mate, he looks to have really shed a few pounds and looked much fitter than last season. Amazing what a proper pre-season can do for players.

| I noticed the same about Walker. Hopefully he's kept his strength and his footwork.
He'll be a handful if he is fitter.
