| Quote: woolly07 "Two teams that look like they could be in trouble today. One or both of Leigh and Bulls will beat Wakey. That means they may now struggle to get the 8 points for third - if that is what it takes. With only 7 games it is vital you don't lose the first two.
This is going to be an intriguing little competition. Next week is vital for both Bulls and Wakey in massively different ways.'"
In your opinion, Wakefield could lose both of them or they could win both of them, but I wouldn't be so bold as to call it either way.

| Although I don't blame the ref for the defeat, I would be very interested to hear Brian's comments regarding the referee. I've agreed with everything he's said in the previous games on this matter, and even though we can't pin the blame on the ref, the man in the middle has a massive influence on how the game is conducted so it's a valid point aslong as it has substance.

| Can we arrange a special party for Wilzay and Scarlet P if (yes if) we are relegated….I have neve r read such a load of tosh in my life. Were they at the game or sat at home eating Yorkshire Puds ?????? There was no lack of effort or enthusiasm imo….in the first half Salford played a near perfect basic display . Dobsons kicking game killed us , we had to start every set from our own line and our last tackle kick was totally ineffective…..infact I think we had 2 attacks on their line and scored from one of them. The second half was totally different and to be honest I think if Godinet had played we would have won that. Tim Smith created some wonderful tries with J. Miller but the man is barely able to walk let alone run and has to rely totally on his passing game. Contrast this with Dobson and Chase who constantly run the line looking for a gap to put some-one through, and they both have a great kicking game so If one is covered the other takes over. With a little more composure we would have won that game, if anything is lacking it's a leader on the field to calm things down and prevent us from the dumb plays we are making at crucial time...

| It's far from relegation confirmed that the doom & gloomers on here are secretly hoping for to continue their moaning. We should have won we were the best side more composer and we will be alright.

| Those doubting the woeful...I won't say cheating...decisions from Child were undoubedly not at the game and can only have seen the snapshot of TV.
Seeing it live, the things Child didn't give to Wakey, but did for Reds was obvious...
We made our own mistakes, but anyone who has played or reffed at a reasonable level will see how the result was "managed" today.
That said...should still have been good enough to win.

| Blimey I thought I could be negative! Well, I would say that today was in one sense frustrating but to say it confirms relegation is a bit barmy. Baffling as to why we took so long to get going. I'm afraid Tim Smith had a few good flashes but was generally awful in my view and if we have any other half options available we should use them. His kicking game was for the large part abysmal and made more obvious by how good Chase's was. I felt a very silly tactical error if taking 2 points at 24-22 let Salford off the ropes that we had them on. We'll never know but I reckon we were in again if we'd attacked their line. They were all over the place at that point. Silly error and very frustrating. And yet again we give away a length of a field try to lose the game from a very dumb kick...BUT we looked hugely more robust than we have all season in defence and had some very good periods. I would say we have hope, but not in large amounts. 80 mins x 6 like the 2nd half we'll be fine. 80 like the first, we're down

| We should have won. Not saying the penalties we gave away in the first half were incorrect but there should have been some given the other way. Not sure about the result being managed think it was more about Wakey not bring composed enough. Would have liked to see them go for a try rather than a penalty goal

| In patches we looked quite decent and the way we tore in to them 2nd half was wonderful to see having been 16 - 0 down. Alas, the poor option by Tupou and Moore's dreadful kick set them up for the clincher and Trinity's hearts are broken again. Have to say I agree with Jack in the Box re Sio, Mullally and Walker. Our best period of the match and at last I thought we looked like a capable side. Big big game next week though strangely Bradford don't worry me even though they won easily today. I expect us to do the business next Saturday and set up a humdinger at Leigh the following week.

| To be fair Mcshane wasn't that impressive for us on friday night. Did pull off a couple of very impressive tackles when clean breaks looked on but apart from that was very average.

| Still have all to play for.
Bradford were playing the weakest team, so they will need to be able to step up to compete at Belle Vue.
Widnes struggled badly against Halifax
Hull KR still have Wembley to think about and we're losing badly against Leigh.
Even Salford although happy with the win were nearly beaten at home with their strongest team.
Injuries will hurt everyone.
Time will tell.
Widnes play Sheffield next so will have 4 points but Salford and Leigh play each other next so Leigh could be on zero so a win for us makes it all tight.

| I think we should give Salford some credit for their first half performance.
Their game plan of kicking early and chasing hard worked perfectly for them.Plus a very high completion rate and no penalties conceded.
Compared to ourselves, who spent much of the first 40 just trying to clear our own line.
Second half was almost the opposite and we played some excellent stuff and got suckered with Rangi Chase going the length of the field.
Couldn't understand the decision to take 2 points, when Salford were going backwards and blowing out of their backsides, when we should have
tried to go for a match clinching try.
Overall though, a fantastic effort by the team and there is plenty of hope for the next 6/7 games
Finally, a magnificent effort by the Wakefield fans, who were there in good number and you could see that the support was appreciated by the players.
On to next week. Same again and we will beat Bradford.
come on Trin !

| Having been sat in the stands as opposed to behind the sticks I had a slightly different angle to many yesterday.
I honestly can't blame James Child for that result, only ourselves.
Yes the penalty count in the first half was one sided but I can only really gripe about 2 decisions in the first half not given to us, both involving that thug who calls himself a rugby player, Rangi Chase. The first was when he was laying on in a tackle near the half way line and was forcibly shoving his elbows into the face of our guy laid on his back.
The second was when he was running at Lee Smith and clearly punched him in the face. (I found it highly amusing when Smith did the same thing to him in the second half which led Chase to cry like a baby to Mr Child).
In the first half Salford played a well structured game and we didn't rise to the challenge. I think that is the best I remember seeing Salford play.
Second half we raised our game and had good pressure for 20+ minutes. We just didn't have the composure to close out the game.
The earlier comment about our forwards when we were playing well and not playing well is telling. I thought Mullaley and Walker really stood out. Walker is a really determined soul and I like his attitude.
I also think we really screwed up with our kicking game. We kept kicking the ball dead behind their goal line. Kicking the ball such a long way and trying to keep it in play by the goal line is a difficult skill. Compared that with Salford who effectively kicked the ball out for a scrum most times. I think those tactics made a significant difference.
Whilst I appreciate his go forward is good I've realised over the season that errors by Scruton are really costing us (sorry to point out one individual but yesterday reminded me of so many things I've seen this year). He misses a tackle in the middle of the field from which the opposition break and score. To be honest they look like routine tackles as well which he is missing. (I know other players miss tackles too, I just can't explain it but his misses seem to be penalised as much as misses by our wingers.)
He also knocks on a few times. His knock on with about 4 minutes to go yesterday effectively killed any chance of us getting back into it. I know he was as devastated as we were at that happening. Yet should a prop be acting as dummy half when we have 4 minutes to go and chasing a game?
I'd rest Scruton for next week and rotate some of the forwards. Our subs were effective yesterday.
I saw Salford as a key match to win which could give us a little comfort as I see Leigh away as a game we might lose.
Now I feel the heat is on. Bradford was always a must win, now even more so. Blow it next week then with 2 SL teams and Leigh away to come I can't see us turning it around. Sorry to be pessimistic but we now have to win 5 from 6 to assure our place in SL next year. Otherwise it is a pot luck million pound game or worse.
It's going to be tough.

Your post above is an accurate and fair summary. I would also add that Brian Smith dropped a huge Boo Bo yesterday by allowing Scot Moore to be starting hooker and have the majority of the game time. Sio was far superior to him in all aspects and we were far the better side when he was playing.
