I think it is because in his first few games for the club he was outstanding and was knocking established pros about and really shining.
People therefore assume that if he could do that then he can only get better. Games since have suggested otherwise but nobody knows why. Perhaps injury, unhappy, lack of games etc?

Gledhill gone to Salford hasn't he? 3 year deal? Started out well but was only a good squad player and not a regular first teamer.

He's fricking 20 years old! He may or may not go on to have a successful SL career but he has shown enough application and ability to be given a chance here.

| Quote: Tommy Duckfingers "Well, where to start......
What are you the bold claim about Hickey on? What do you know with certainty what the rest of us don't? You also seem well informed about Monday mornings, who is injured, who turns up for training and who has been offered contracts or not - me I just go on what I see on the pitch.
It would seem like we both want different things from our prop forwards, or Korki-blindness you could call it. You obviously want a nostrel flaring, big bicepted angry beast of a prop who charges in at full tilt and once every couple of months busts a tackle or muscles and wriggles for every extra inch in the collision- all looks very impressive, in fact our lass thinks he's great too. Until then you realise he has either lost the ball or been turtled by the defense or given a penalty away - and as a result we are completely on the back foot.
Me, I prefer me prop to have a bit more about him - an offload and some nouse. OK, Kingy will never give you the kick off return at Hull or chin a Fev player but he will consistently go elbows and knees when he hits the tackle and get a quicker PTB and give his team the best chance of getting on a roll after winning the ruck. King isn't International class anymore, but what he is as a reasonably talented good forward who won't command much of a wage and he is British too. We need squad men and Kingy could have done a job for us I feel, and in my opinion he has more going for him and offers more (all things considered) tha Korkidas or Hickey.
Anyroad, Korki had a stormer yesterday didnt he? Maybe his poorly ribs is the reason he can't land on his front in the tackle?'"
Could not have put it any better myself...............

Please allow me to explain, it's a very Wakey thing which I like to call the Korki factor.
At Wakey you have the beyond reproach players. Players like Murphy and Morrison who can simply do no wrong and are never judged and thus are always slightly over rated.
Then you have the other players who are judged using the Korki index. This is based purely on how well you play in your first game - or more accurately how well you appear to play - all flared nostrills and wriggling about doesn't matter how many basic errors you make just look the part.
So long as you achieve that and make your mark you are free to be as poor as you wish from then on. You are in with the bling crowd and that's all that matters.
If you have a shaky start or you simply get on with your job minus the Korki theatricals you are doomed. Won't matter how many games you play well in you will always be remembered for that first game especially if you made a mistake. Even better for the scapegoaters if you are young, local and English.
Odd isn't it - worse these people don't even realise it's them. Love the use of the word fetish which is spot on,

| Just adding to the Gledhill fan club... He will be an awesome player if treated properly and coached better. To play out of your skin then be dropped, then play well again and then to be dropped etc etc and then we sign an unfit hickey who hasn't really shone and being dropped again for him would be enough to damage a young lads confidence. He needs a fair run and I believe he will prove his worth.

| Gledhill not big enough, Korki not interested, King had good rugby brain and probably coached our half backs more than Kear, shame about his injuries, Hickey has good hands, a rugby brain but can't get fit.
Surely A good coach could make some thing out of Hickey.
Amor has been by far our best prop.

| Size and fitness can be sorted within 8 weeks with proper training and diet. The question is how has kear asked his side to be trained? Looking at them I would say as lean as possible. I think the whole team apart from a couple all need some size

| Hickey was awarded MOM for Wakefield in this morning's RLE for the Academy. Even though Trouty scored from a distance.
Apparently Ross Spiers was injured and Hickey had to stop on longer than expected- bless

As far as I remember Gledhill had that one decent game on debut, then failed to impress after that.

That was the point of my Post, I am saying he has potential but needs a few constant games. Nobody plays/works well when their confidence is getting knocked.

| It's easy to like Ben Gledhill because he has something that can't be coached and that's heart! You can train the house down, live in the gym, pump yourself up with layers of muscle but if you ain't got the attitude, the heart and the genuine passion for the club you're wasting everyone's time.
Ben has a big frame and he needs to develop it by adding 20+ pounds of muscle evenly distributed over his whole body and not just round his chest and shoulders.
How many times have we seen a player who was physically smaller than his peers but had the heart and attitude that most players lack. Unfortunately for most of these players there's nothing you can do to make them physically bigger, Johnny Thompson springs to mind, but with Ben there is every chance of improving his physique.
It would be a real shame to see him leave when he has so much potential and if given the right conditioning programme he's not the far from being able to realise his potential.
