| Bang average performance but a 16 point win so can't really complain.
Excellent support though, if a little quiet at times.

| It's a similar game to a few we've played this season. Too many errors and penalties, but then we play some class RL when we cut them out. On Lino, he's a frustrating player to watch because he has games where he's man of the match, or at least plays well and then he has the odd game like today where it looks like he's coming back from a year off. Anyway, a win's a win but even taking into account that it's only 7 games into the season, the team will still be gelling. Plus most of the overseas missed pre-season, so we should generally be getting a bit better each game but IMO we've been a bit inconsistent with the quality of our RL so far.

| Well below SL standard today. Seemed to avoid stringing passes together presumably because of so many poor ones early on, but then when we did pass it out we made good ground.
Kay needs more game time, pace improves when he's on.

| Quote: Willzay "Tough win, made it hard for ourselves especially with the lack of composure in the first half. Ain’t it good to have a coach who can get the team to improve with his half time talks?
I have to say Franco did alright even though they didn’t trouble his side much.'"
Missed a great opportunity in first half on corner, other than that i never noticed him cant wait for jermaine to be back

| We only seem to have 1 attacking play which makes us easy to read in my opinion. Toulouse knew of Jowitts threat, and mostly knew where to find him and snuff out his threat.

| Thought most of the time in the first half we looked dangerous, but often the final pass let us down.
Rodwell getting better each game.
Walmsley taking his tries really welll, and tje first was a belter

| I thought Toulouse were very good defensively which slowed us down a bit.
The poor plays early on weren't unforced errors, they were forcing them.
Luckily for us a combination of their poor attack and our good defense kept them out.
Their tries came from two helping hand penalties that got them in position and a speculative kick that for some reason 3 players decided to just look at rather than playing it dead.
Ultimately Kay coming on speeded things up so Gale had chance to do something at second receiver.
The first try was outstanding.

On Lino he is frustrating but I think it’s more accurate to say his good performances are few and far between and he’s generally middling at best. I just don’t get him at all. I’ve never known a player have so much space in front and to the side of him yet step into the only players close to him. He did it a few times today and it’s just bizarre.
I still think his issue is that he’s running it too close to the line and putting himself under some real pressure situations and his sporadic passing are because he’s just too close to the line.
Job done today but we were very loose and error strewn.
Toulouse couldn’t handle the forwards and we just needed to be more direct that first half but instead of having forward after forward hitting the line we just threw long passes out to the edges and put ourselves under pressure without earning the right down the middle first (similar to Batley).
Forwards rescued that game today and Rodwell was very good last quarter he really put in some monster carries.

| We are a frustrating team to watch so far in 2024 which is a strange thing to say given we are unbeaten but we are just unable to string a full 80 or even 60 together. If we do we will blitz some teams as the truth is we are levels about most teams in this division.
We tend to at the moment want to do enough then go into cruise mode. If a team pegs us back we lift it again and pull into a lead, then go back into 2nd or 3rd gear.
In regards playing staff I’d have loved to see Dagger in this team. We lack strike and pace in the halves and it costs us so many opportunities to open teams when we have created that half yard of space.

| It was an odd game imo
I tend to agree that our general game play was a bit scrappy, but some of that may have been down to Toulouse aggressive defence.
Yet that shouldn’t take away from a huge positive.
Our tries were absolutely top notch, easily the best of the season, all but one were well crafted team efforts. The other was brilliant opportunism.
Truth is that when you can conjure five of those off the back of generally mediocre play, then you will usually win. We don’t need to beat ourselves up over the 80 minutes thing, that will come eventually.

| Credit for some of our 'bad play' should be handed to Toulouse who probably played their best game so far this season.
Also a couple of their tries came off penalties - they didn't even look like bothering our line until we helped them.-
I'm as frustrated as anyone by Lino - he can do it but seems to try too hard.
BTW there are two halfbacks - is Gale as good as he was at Cas' - no!

Is anyone expecting him to be? Gale is past his best and is likely in his last season. Lino is in his prime but for me completely disrupts the attack, constantly taking the wrong option, throwing wayward passes and running wide taking the space away from the outside backs. His defence is great but even then his OTT drop on a defenceless man on the ground was cowardly and costly in terms of giving the opposition a leg up. We need better if we get promoted.
Forwards do a great job. But as Powell says the execution in good ball was off. The ruck was very slow meaning by the time the ball got out to the flanks Toulouse were in position. Doyle and Kay did speed things up and that changed the dynamic of the game

My point really is perhaps Lino needs someone to take the pressure off him- I'm no coach and Lino frustrates me but he's never had a top stand off playing alongside him since he came to Wakefield!
Anyway who the alternative to Lino at SH?

Best I've seen us play this year, with respect to attack fluidity, was with Lawford and Jowitt in the halves. Best I saw us play last season was with Kay and Dagger in the halves. I wouldn't be overly disappointed if we saw a different combination of Jowitt, Lawford or Kay in there. Lino is a dangerous runner with the ball, he's got a great step, he is very committed and has strong defence. I agree he shouldn't be the main man as I don't think in his skill set.
