| Missed opportunity for me to make a change.
On paper last years squad was much stronger than the current one and look what Kear did with that. Add in the fact that a large proportion of our first team squad are now extremely young and Kear does not have a good track record with youngsters and I think we will struggle more with Kear at the helm then by trying a fresh approach.
Club would have had nowt to lose cos no one expects much this season anyway, so a new coach could have come in without any immediate pressure to succeed.

| personally i like kear and think he is good to have at the club, however the type of rugby we have played under him since brough left has been awful.
maybe with some new players and a new boss things will change.
if not then perhaps time for a change somewhere in the coaching team.

| Quote: Uptoncat "Not his biggest fan, he'll always divide opinion too, he has done wherever hes coached. However now is not the time to be bagging him or the players no matter what you think of them. Its early days on our road to recovery and we need to stand together and be vocal in our support of everything that is a part of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at this moment in time. Lets get behind everyone, clean slate n all that.'"

I think he may have already earned that honour in 2006

| Quote: jonh "Fair play, its just my opinion. I just think Wakefield have been technically very very weak these last few years. You are going forward with a very young inexperienced squad physically lacking probably all of your competitors.
It is vital that you improve technically and I cannot see Kear suddenly being able to do that. For me he like so many others from a certain era like Brian Noble have become very dated in their methods very quickly.
As much as it pains me to say it I would have looked to the Toyota Cup/NRL reserve comp for a more technical coach.
Apologies if you not agree, it is just my opinion.'"
I'll be honest here you may be right on most points. That said I would say that if JK has one strength it's motivating young and experienced sides who have been written off. Where JK has failed in recent years is that he has had to many players so called good players to choose from, some of whom had strong ideas of their own. I think JK is at his best building teams from spare parts and making them believe. What he has failed to do as yet is take those teams to the next level and keep them there, I'm not sure he has that in him.
With that in mind I can't think of a better coach for us at this moment. We are a spare parts paper thin team with no hope and getting them moving is right up Johns street. I think the last thing we need right now is a coach with new ideas, we need tried and trusted and if JK reverts to the JK style of a few years back we will be OK I think even Mopsey might admit that.

Whilst I appreciate what Kear has done for us, I have said several times last year that we are tactically inept and we seem to make the same mistakes week in, week out.
I think we should have tried to get some Wakefield spirit into the coaching team and should have looked to Andy Kelly to have another go. I bet he would have come, not doing anything else as far as I am aware.

I'm not sure I understand the Andy Kelly choice. It's a matter of opinion as to whether JK has gone as far as he can. However I can't see the reasoning in replacing him with another coach who has achieved even less than Kear.
I felt that Andy Kelly was one of the most badly treated coaches ever at Wakefield. No way did he deserve the axe, it basically ruined his career through no fault of his own.
That said this all happened ten years ago and the world has changed since then. If Kear is a dinasour as is often expressed on here I can't see how AK would be any better. He's been in and out of the game a while and has gained no SL experience.
I'm not suggesting AK would be a bad choice, just can't see where he would be an improvement.
As for the Wakefield Spirit bit, JK was the man who led the great escape of 2006, the most spirited Trinity performances in 40 years IMO. It's amazes me how quickly we forget and how selective our memories are. Andy Kelly has no edge over JK where Wakey spirit is concerned.
I'm afraid if we get a new coach (we don't IMO) for me he will need to be an Aussie, because frankly the English ones are not good enough.

| The team of 2006 had a lot of experience though of SL, that helps spirit. Spirit alone isnt always enough.
