do you remember the year we won the Wigan sevens that was a great day out think it was 1980

Round 18 of the 2007 Super League season was a great performance by the Wildcats. Wigan under the influence of Trent Barratt came to Belle Vue with a strut but the Wildcats outclassed them in every department. Try scorers that day were Blaymire, Demetriou, Fox, Jefferies 2 and a fantastic try scored by Richard Moore who handed off Calderwood then trampled all over him to kiss the ball then dive over the line. Brett Ferres kicked 4 goals in front of 8,126 supporters

Remember Mason cutting Wigan to bits one year with a couple of blinding tries at Belle Vue, also remember a game when i was very young when Wigan scored with nearly every touch of the ball but missed loads of kicks got to the point where everyone was having a crack a goal and Andy Greg missed straight in front of the sticks.

Still managed to rack up 70 points though!

Wasn't the ref Colin Morris? I remember seeing it on the highlights and could have sworn it was him.

Having done a little research, BSB's "The Sports Channel" started broadcasting to cable viewers on 27 March 1990. So the Wakey-Wigan match (1st April) will have been the first one shown.

Just been viewing 89 90 season highlights video. Both controversial games within a few months of each other. First cup game on telly Feb 90. It was on Grandstand and a buy your ticket in advance game. Mason had a try disallowed for a double movement ( looked a fair call to me), and Phil Fox had a try disallowed for a forward pass (bad call that one I think). Finished 14 26 Ray Price went off on a stretcher with a back injury.

Second game was on 1/4/90 (was it a Sun or Sat night a telly game). Anyway as has previously been said Hanley dropped ball under the sticks. Ref Morris gave the try. Even Hanley looked embarrassed. Wakey then given a succession of five penalties in as many minutes by Morris. Wakey scored as final hooter sounded and fans had to be cleared from pitch so Mark Conway could take conversion. Ref had police escort as he left the pitch. Final score 14 23.

The Wigan game that we won in 2006 on Sky still sticks out in my mind. The video ref took an age to decide if we had scored in the corner or had the ball been dislodged by in the process ( was it Hallpenny and Richards). Still think we were lucky with that 50 50 video call. Had it not gone our way ultimately we would have been relegated.

You're right it was Halpenny and Richards and yes it was a bad call. Richards was almost horizontal and going over the line when Halpenny hit him and the ball came loose and was touched down by another Wigan player. What the Ref didn't pick up was Halpenny reaching across Richards' back and punching the ball loose but it was an understandable error, it happened so fast.
A woman Wgan supporter sat in front me who had been a real pain for the whole match went absolutely balistic and I couldn't console her no matter how hard I tried . At the end we shook hands and parted friends and my last words were "Don't worry, you won't be relegated". Sometimes I really hate being right.

PS I've just re read your post and we are on different wave lengths. The incident I describe was at the end of the game with a Halpenny tackle on Richards.

Back in 1945 my father introduced me to the highs and lows of being a Trinity fan (Some things never change). I suppose I was lucky that my earliest memory was a high; the '46 Cup Final.
In truth I don't remember much about the match (I was only seven), but two things do stick in my memory, one was a Wigan supporter sat just in front of me who had a bright red neck, I was fascinated. The other was "that goal". I didn't really know what was going on, but I could feel the tension and everything went quiet, then there was an almighty roar and suddenly I was heading skywards. When I came down (he caught me), I had to ask him what all the excitement was about, I knew about goal kicks but I didn't know they were so important. Happy days.

Has to be the win at Central Park which has been mentioned a few times already. The Andy Wilson try which was started by Henry Paul in his own in goal area is one of the best I've ever seen. Those last five minutes felt like about an hour.

Even going back to the car and seeing a smashed window and no radio couldn't take away the delight of a stunning win. I bought me Dad that radio aswell and had saved up for ages and bought him it for Christmas, like I say though the win was far more important at the time.
