There were even fans of other clubs opposing the community stadium the other year why would they do that.

Up the Trin'"
]

LET US NOT FORGET the CEO of a certain club even wrote a letter to the public enquiry objecting to the plans. This was widely endorsed by the majority of the fans of that club.

Well, I'm a Bulls fan, but I'm also a Wakefield council tax payer who has suffered from the drastic cutting of services in the area. My daughters swimming club no longer have their pool after it was shut by wmdc.

So I've followed this story, and I understand trinity have been, at best, woefully let down by wmdc on this, but I would just add that the general perception of the people I've spoken to about this is that whilst they agree that wmdc are pretty inept, they are also pretty much hamstrung financially by lower distributions from central government, and their story from last week of trinity backing out as you won't pay a commercial rent and not having the burden on the taxpayer is the story that's stuck, even if it's false, and forgets the original deal of a stadium provided by the developer for the gifting of greenbelt land to build that eyesore.

So I really think the club needs to get its legal advice quicker and issue a strong statement, because you're losing the perception "battle" with the general wmdc public, the majority of whom don't know the full details, don't go on rl forums, but do read and believe (mostly) council statements in the local press, and they don't really care beyond "how can the council pay for a stadium but shut my pool/library etc."

Good luck, i hope you get the community stadium promised by the developer -and that I don't end up paying for it whilst I still have to drive past the white eyesore to stand on the decaying odsal terraces icon_wink.gif

I made exactly this point a number of months ago - and it's even truer now than it was then; there has been far to much focus on this as a stadium for WT, and very little mention of the developers obligation to the Wakefield public in return for being gifted pp on green belt land. Mr Box has exploited that with his latest stunt, and the club/trust seem happy to let it stand.

Agreed, we are missing a "trick" by not mentioning the "Community" facilities at every occasion.
Trinity are being made out as the villain here, when the polar opposite is the case and the wider public believe that WMDC are funding the project and not merely loaning the cash until they are successful in recouping the loan from the developers.
Maybe this is part of WMDC's plan, which removes much of the pressure on them to actually do something.

Do people think the re-deveopment plans are a red herring. I don't see it as very realistic, just going by the optics i just don't see where this stadium fits within the dimensions.

A few people have commented on this so you are not alone in thinking it and given the councils latest move it wouldn’t surprise me

You're correct now as you were then. Im sure the club/trust will respond, probably both privately and publically, but the silence is deafening following last weeks wmdc release. Which Im sure will be for perfectly good and legitimate reasons, but it doesn't play well with the lazy perceptions of the majority of wmdc residents I suspect, and the longer the councils version is left publically unopposed the harder it will be to remind people of the correct version of events and exactly who should be paying for what and when (I.E. not me the taxpayer but yorkcourt and a community stadium funded by the land grabbing developer assisted without ongoing financial risk as much as possible by the council.)

Like I said, good luck, I suspect you're going to need some, hope it works out eventually.

Seriously I can’t work you out. One day you are proclaiming what a great season we have had the next you are blaming the club for something that is not their fault

For a bright bloke you're not being very smart. They are not letting anything stand but in case you have not worked it out this one is almost certainly going to court.

The last thing we need is for some emotive inaccurate comment to come back and haunt us. Let the council lackey do that.

It will be the job of the legal team to decide how we fight it. I'm certain the community element will be a keystone don't you.

The club are probably staying quiet so that it doesn't become a club issue. Leave it to the trust an organisation that represents all.

Finally why are are some falling into the trap of thinking this will in anyway cost the council! Apart from the fact that it forces them to fulfill their obligation both developments will bring them a great deal of money in through rates and new jobs even excluding the stadium and other facilities.

Don't fall for it - they have managed it with Cas they can mange it with us - the cost to the Council is tiny.
