| Quote: Khlav Kalash "All this boosting of squads before the middle 8's, disgraceful! Surely it's not in the spirit of the game. I expect Eddie to condemned all perpetrators of this scandalous act at every opportunity during the live games'"
Was just thinking the same myself, although the silence appears to be deafening at present!

| King will be cheap compared to Thompson and will be a project player, with real potential. Thompson will be expensive and his abilities are well known.
In a Superleague with at least 3 clubs genuinely struggling all year, ask yourself why no-one else has been in for him.
Let me help. It’s because he’s an overpaid and limited player. He wouldn’t be anything more than a squad player at any top 8 club.
He will be on more than Arona too!

Could it be that Leigh's financial woes have just come to light?
Probably overpaid because Leigh have made him that?
Thought we had a project player in Jordan Crowther, without having to go to Warrington?
You obviously know a lot more than I do and that's why I bowed to your superior knowledge.

| Anyway if Leeds have signed Thompson, we'll see what sort of player he is.

| I’d keep Crowther before Thompson any day of the week.

It's about economics, we now can't afford Arona, which happens at a club like ours.
A bit like when we signed Grix and Wilkes from Widnes when they went into liquidation, after their deals were up we couldn't offer what the wanted.
Thompson is a local product, who goes about his business unspectacularly and is a solid performer.
Would I replace Arona with Thompson? Depends on how high Aronas quota spot is valued and if we're in for George King, what's the difference between him and Thompson?'"
What makes you think we can't afford Arona?
Isn't it more and case of needing the quota place because we're looking for an overseas half-back? Not by choice, but he's the only quota player out of contract. Only a rumour up to now anyway. We'll find out soon enough.

| Still puzzled on this Arona has been outstanding over last few weeks showing great energy at this stage of season when others look tired , this added with fact he’s not so far been offered anything and is maybe on his way out shows his commitment,, George king isn’t a top 8 side second row/prop he isn’t big enough and doesn’t run the ball in as hard as Arona, squad player top championship player at best simple no brainer give Arona another 2 yrs ???

Having seen some of the comments on social media regarding this, there are a lot of comments bemoaning promotion and relegation, and the impact it has on clubs and players.
Whilst I do agree to some of this, P&R has been around most sports for a long time, and like it or not, it comes as part of the territory.
They have actually bemoaned too, of the Summer Bash, as they lost this fixture, and had this not have taken place, then they would have qualified for the middle 8s.
What I think Leigh's problem is here, is that 2-3 years ago, they were probably the only club that spent the full cap on their squad, and now that probably isn't the case. I would guess that half the championship clubs are. This has provided us with a competetive league, albeit, the bottom half of the league is, at the moment some way off the pace.
My main gripe would be here, the cap ruling for Toronto, which was announced when the club entered our sport. I have re attached the link to the news item, and also quoted, what it said in there.
www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/rugbyl ... rugby.html
"The club will not receive central funding from the RFL but are likely to get special dispensation to exceed the salary cap to enable them to run a full-time team and have pledged to cover all costs of visiting teams, who will fly out on a Thursday, play on Saturday and return the following day."
There is no clarity here, as to how much extra they are allowed. For all we know, should they gain promotion, could they run their cap toward NRL proportions. If so, how many existing clubs could rival that

Leigh's problem is quite straightforward - a wealthy businessman decided to play at RL Chairman and, despite all the evidence to the contrary which was right in front of his two eyes, thought he could buy a place in SL; he couldn't, and now he's realised that he isn't quite wealthy enough to pi$$ away Ken Davy amounts of money on an ongoing basis, so he's abandoning Leigh and leaving them up $hit creek.
The best thing for RL, would be to stay well away from idiots like Koukash and Beaumont; they do untold damage to heritage clubs, then walk away and leave other people to pick up the pieces - it's a microcosm of the senior Tories approach to Brexit, a la Cameron, Johnson and Davis.

Why bring politics into it?

| Also proves that just because you are spending a lot of money on building a team doesn't always pay off.
It is also about doing the above wisely, and having good people alongside you, who may be more savvy about the sport and its players to advise you, on not just what player you need, but what type, and their attitude.
One other point I would make, going from past experiences, would be that some clubs, Chairmen and CEO's, manipulate, the cap, within the rules, to gain optimum advantage from it. I have said before that, you do, or did, get benefits from the RFL on this, such as acccreditations for having players from your academy being in the England Knights squad, payer retention for, I think something like 10 years. I heard of players having clauses in their contract, such as number of games played, points scored, games won etc, which could give players more incentive to stay.
I was advised of one club, that did this a lot, and have been very successful over the Super League era, without too many wholesale changes within their squad

Did no clubs go bust under Labour? Is that what you are suggesting?
Or that Koucash and Beaumont are Tories or reckless capitalists?
Both of those run businesses that employ many many people. I doubt they have done what they have done on a whim, without thought for the consequences.
And please don’t try to belittle other people and justify your posts by asking “did I hurt your feelings?”. It just makes you look like a childish .
