With Shudds not being interested in their local lad when he was starting out maybe this will have the same effect as TJ with Leeds and Gaz Ellis with Cas.

If you want to want to just blindly hope for the best, you anticipate the worst and then work to avoid it.
I’m on the rose tinted end of the spectrum, but not so much that I dismiss obvious issues.
If you want to Murphy to stay like we all do youd better think of a way and not just hope for the best.
If we can tie him up in the next few months we have a good chance. If we don’t and he carries on in the same vain next season we will struggle. Then they will all be on here moaning as to why the club didn’t do more. Will you be one of those? Hope not.'"
It's lovely that you want to be in the rose tinted group. We meet Wednesdays at 1.30.
There is a test to get in though. You have to show that you have never thrown your Teddy out of the pram when we get beat by Cas or posted that we are definitely down with 10 games to go. I'm sure you'll be OK though.
In terms of keeping Murphy, the first thing to do is offer him a new contract based on this season, not that he's a kid learning his trade as he was when we gave him the last contract. That's a significant boost. Probably double at least.

I agree with this we need to tie him up for as long as possible and make it an attractive package he can’t refuse. I suppose similar to what we did for TJ - if we get as long out of Murphy we can’t complain and then we start again……

| If Murphy is a game / match winner why not market him.
The club must have some incredible still photo of him flying through the air.
When I say marketing I don't mean Facebook or twitter I'm talking about a poster campaign in a d around the merry city.

| The reality is when his contract is up he will leave we wont be able to match the big clubs,if we try it will impact the the budget for recuitment. Enjoy watching him while he's here. They all leave for money thats just life, plus who would except less than lineham after his contributions this season

That is an excellent point Tallywacker. Any agent worth his salt will know or have a very good idea what Lineham is on. He will open the negotiatioms by saying " right, you are payimg that clown £X , so lets start there, my lad is far better than him so what will you offer him "

| 17 tries and 4 assists this year according to the Super League stattos. If losing Aydin means Shaw / Easah step up for next year and Murphy gets improved terms then it's money well spent in my opinion. It feels like a big ask though given every club in the league would probably like him. Let's just see how it all pans out

Obviously.....
I'd say they had a very good look at him (scoring tries and making them look ordinary) on Monday.........

| Getting Murphy to commit to a contract extension will becan excellent season ticket marketing tool.

19 tries and 4 assists in 19 games I think including challenge cup.

Possibly, but is he quite that well known yet? I'm not so sure.
I get your logic but it will take a bit of spin to get it out to the wider public.

Wouldn't make any difference. People would just look at the poster and say 'whose he'.
But fundamentally you are correct.
If he wins young player of the year you might be able to milk that a bit. But you wouldn't do that through posters, that's just yesterdays technology I'm afraid.
You'd do it through the media you've just dismissed.
You'd sign Lewis on a new deal with part of it being as the face of the club in the media.
He's a decent looking lad, speaks well on TV, doesn't appear shy. Get him permanently on social media and in the local press, visiting schools, factories, opening shops, local Rugby clubs, anything that makes him a face that people start to know and talk about. Doesn't need to cost much other than the extra we pay Lewis and perhaps a bit of guidance from a local PR company.
Of the social media sites, and I'm no expert, but I think TikTok would be a good one. Put together a really slick video of his tries, and some cracking defence and tie it in with Wakefield, both the club and the city. Due to his acrobatics it might appeal to a broader audience within the Wakefield district. Get the clubs social media followers to back it and see where it goes.
So long as it's done in a fun and tactful way and doesn't set him up for a fall it would probably work. I can't see his media activities bothering the rest of the team, especially now Dave has gone.

| They seem to be marketing Murphy a fair bit on Twitter with his finishers etc. Driving around Wakey you’d never think we had a RL team. Some savvy advertising, boards etc would make a difference, bring the feel good factor back to the city. Murphy is an advertisers Wet Dream if marketed right.
