I said it when he got the job and I stick by it: never appoint the assistant who got the benefit of a post-sacking bounce. We did it in 2005 with Tony Smith and he almost took us down the year after. We did it with Webster, who had a post-sacking bounce. I cannot think of a single Super League example of a former assistant who stepped in after the previous head-coach was sacked and who went on to do well. It's because you have the same-old same-old. I just hoped I was wrong. Some people are meant to be assistants. Willie is one, as he always has been.

I don't think he's helped by his squad, who are too old and jaded, probably as sick of it all as we are, but I think that is partly to do with the increased success of the NRL. All the best English players head there and now no decent Aussies come over, so the top clubs get the best of the rest and we get glorified Championship players. There are players at some of the top clubs who would never have got in them fifteen years ago, and maybe would have ended up with us.

But the promoted assistant was a disaster waiting to happen, and now the disaster is happening. We are one Toulouse win away from relegation.

Quote: Trojan Horse "Sorry Mopsey but your adding weight to Vastmans argument.

We won Hull and Wire. Batch was instrumental in both at right centre. Poching rung the changes in a back to back winning team by moving Batch to the middle and the players replacing him went on to leak try’s for fun and right edge defence fell to bits. That was Poching choice to tinker with a winning team and he fluffed it up.

Same with Crowther. He admitted himself last year he isn’t a 9. It appears in Pochings grand plan to start Batch at 13 Crowther is being made into our interchange 9. A role that he struggled with and is struggling with again. Crowther was playing well at 13.

Why Poching is making decisions like this just confuses the heck out of me.'"
no I'm not adding weight but one win and peoples opinions change and suddenly become the best thing since sliced bread. The fans have accepted mediocrity for years and will carry on doing so, nothing will change, nothing ever does

Quote: Luppylad "Cant put it all on fifita yes what he did was stupid but we as a team should be able to cope for 10 mins with 12 .also what buttler did was just as bad if not worse.there was loads of errors that led to it'"

I get what you’re saying but there was only a few secs on the clock when Fifita did what he did ! not even 10 secs I believe . We were on the back foot from the kick off 2nd half ! Butlers was reckless and as stupid but it happens … Fifitas was the most stupid/dumb play …. . Once the gap was there our already weak side .. Croft /Evans we’re grasping at fresh air . We had it won … just criminal … couldn’t wait to get out of the ground and come home . !

Also to say Arona is retiring we are a much weaker team in defence and attack when he’s not on the park ! We are in a lot of trouble and I honestly can’t see us escaping with the current set up ! We are just not good enough …

Well some on here blamed our demise on Chester and now it's Poching who can't coach what a sorry state we are in.Fifita getting stick for getting binned which was a silly rush of blood to the head. But imo Fifita was playing Toulouse on his own when he got back on. His effort and work rate was relentless. We have to realise the buck stops with the man at the top and he has to sort out the problem on the pitch or else we will have a new refurbished stadium with nobody in it.

Yeah, but the damage had been done by then, he had already shot us in the foot and we never recovered...it gave Toulouse the sniff of blood that they needed and the rest is history. Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of Dave (hence my avatar), but we were in total control of that game right up to that point and then Dave popped our balloon icon_beat.gif

Dave wasnt the lad giving away sets of 6 and missing tackles in that time or they didnt do the damage with overlaps 1 man doesnt make that much of a difference look at barrow and halifax the other week when fax won playing 11 v 13

I may be incorrect but did WP not state prior to today’s game that the performance is far more important than the result. I am not a coach but no it is not because one will usually result in the other.

For me, the demise is not on Poching, or Chester, but Carter.

Yes, the blame will surely lay at Poching, but most of these are Chesters players, but Chester should have gone a long time before he did.

I said at the time it would take time for Poching to turn things around.

It's cultures that need to change from the top, down

I honestly think that Poaching fitted in to the club slot.
He like Chester will not cause a fuss and that's exactly what MC needed.
Anyway who cares the club will never achieve anything under the present regime. Stuff it.

We should table a motion of no confidence in the current board. We’re getting one new stand at the risk of relegation.

Well it did today squire, And if Dave had been on the field then the players having to take up the slack with Dave been missing in action then the lads having to do the extra tackling for Dave in that heat might not have been under as much pressure missing tackles they might not have had to make for Dave or that other duckegg had they been on the field, I could be wrong of course and you spot on, but for me credit where credits due full marks to Fifita and Butler.

So was it dave fault jordan did a shocking pass from acting half to lose possession or corey knocked on when still at 20 4 .think at times people just look for a scapegoat or look at what they think is the obvious.teams go men down all the time but dont capatulate like that.it wasnt tierdness either it was poor attitude and no desire like i said look at halifax v barrow

Let’s be honest playing a half for 20 mins with 12 men is hardly ideal , just ask Wigan today what losing a man does when your in full control, it doesn’t matter in the big scheme of things if you lose by 2 or 22 is still a big fat nil against you . Toulouse we’re gifted a lifeline in that second period and took it gratefully with both hands ,we then decided to turn into headless chickens and capitulated spectacularly . We looked like we didn’t have the fight nor the attitude to dig in and put up a fight . There are players that are giving their all ,but equally players that obviously don’t give a dam about the club or the fans ,and take a wage for the minimum of effort. We all know who they are without the need for name calling , and I’m positive the staff at Trinity know ,as it certainly doesn’t take a genius to pick them out . We’ve started the rebuild , hopefully it will continue at pace ,as time is running out for us .But it’s not over till the fat lady sings ,and we must fight all the way until it’s mathematically impossible, just need to get the players into that mindset, and jobs a good un as they say .

I really hope he didn't, because this was the one game where the result was more important. If we'd won today, I think we'd be safe, as Toulouse would have had the job of winning three more games than us in a very limited time. On the flipside, they are one win from safety, and now full of confidence.

If that is true, it is an utterly brainless thing to say. Today was only about the result.

It's okay hearing your boss say it when you're at teams like Leeds and Warrington, where you're trying to instil some self-belief for a last push for Old Trafford. When you say it yourself for a game where only the result mattered, you have to wonder what on earth is going on.
