But no, we'll be seeing if Jai Field can tackle Tom Johnstone as he flies in at the corner.'"

Touched on a personal bug bear of mine, with the calibre of finishers in the game, Johnstone, Makinson etc I can't understand why the last defender doesn't dive for the corner instead of trying and 9/10 failing to tackle them. Getting the ball down one handed over a body makes it an even more difficult skill.
Granted you're going to get beaten up with a 14/15 stone bloke landing on you but needs must icon_biggrin.gif

I agree. I've never understood it.
Johnstone is particularly adept at getting the ball to the floor but I think I'd have my full back just diving to get his body on the tryline to be underneath when they dives.
Of course Tim will just make defenders look silly as he seems to be able to change direction even in mid air.
He has the spacial awareness of a gymnast.

Quote: vastman "You’re quite right and fans have short memories. It’s only 3 years since Chesters team was on the brink of greatness after 3 seasons of excellent RL and then look what happened. You’d think listening to some on here that this seasons never happened.

Compared to that these are very early days for WP and the RL we are playing now is no better than it was from 2016 to mid 2019 despite how it’s twisted on here.

The only tangible difference I can see is a more root and branch style. Where as CC depended hugely on a core group of players WP seems to have widened the franchise. It feels more inclusive and crucially it feels like form rather than reputation gets you in the team.

Personally it’s what I’ve always wanted and I suspect it’s what most fans want. Let’s hope that what we’ve wished for all these years pays off.

That said if we fall on our backsides tomorrow for heavens sake let’s take it on the chin. If there is a Poching revolution it’s not going to be fully fledged in less than a year. Be great if it was though Vastman i rispect your defence of Chester but taking over a very good fit squad and and saying that it was better than what W Poaching as achieved so far is not fair Late .last year W Poaching took over a unfit injury prone squad and put belief back in them .and this year We are playing the best football since the squad of 3 year ago .Let's wait and see were we are in 3 year if we can can get W P signed up for next 3 year

Think we need to take a reality check, how many games has Poching even been in charge of yet? Yes we're looking promising and things look rosy but things change quickly. Only when he's got a season or two under his belt can we make a retrospective judgment on how well he's done. What happens if we go and lose 4 in a row badly?

I was being sarcastic about Field.
He is an absolute weapon in attack. Needs watching.

I am quietly confident about tomorrows game.
True Wigan are a benchmark team that most teams in superleague would like to aspire to, but I also think that Wigan brings out the best of Wakefield. Over the past few seasons we have come up with surprise victories against them, home and away. If we play to our strengths out wide and big Dave, Tinirau and the rest of the pack get on top of them, I can see an home win. Goal kicking may be decisive.

I’m not convinced Johnstone will play, but if he’s fully fit I’d leave out Adebiyi, Bowes, Gaskell and Murphy. Any slight doubts with TJ and Murphy comes in for me. Gaskell will have to wait for his chance.

It's no a defence it's a fact, for his first three seasons CC was a very successful coach, end of, can't be argued with, fact. WP has got off to a good start but before you binn CC let's see where we are in two years time.

Why the need to do down a previous coach to big up a new one, it's not needed. WP will stand or fall on what he does but I'm sure he'd be the first to admit CC was a good coach. It's just that his time came and went, very few coaches last five seasons.

Never asked for Chesters head, and just hoped he could have turned it round.
Interviews became uncomfortable to watch and he probably felt like a dead man walking for knocking on for 3 seasons.
The circumstances at Trinity almost guaranteed him a stay of execution.
5seasons had very little to do with his capabilities, particularly towards the end.

He never recovered from 3 seasons ago.

Injuries and then covid completely knackered things. The only thing was, it became clear that there was no way to return to the success of the first couple of years.
All belief seemed to have evaporated for both him and the squad.
It's hard to believe that we are watching pretty much the same group of players.

The win away at Wire in the cup, without TJ and Johnstone was immense

It's all in the past now and we are thankfully moving forward again.
IF and its a huge if, we can get past Wigan today, there will be a real buzz around the club.

Bring it on !
