| Chester can't win.
When we suffer an injury crisis its his fault for not being able to coach a second string to an equal level to first choice.
When he tries to recruit to make our squad stronger he is wasting his money and should rely on youth that isn't ready yet.
If MC says we can afford him then it's a good shout.
His experience along will help the younger players.

| Would be a win win for me if this comes off. Yes we have centres but this could potentially just be one season and he have to prove himself an excellent signing to push to take up a quota spot the year after. If we get better than we have at the moment or just competition for places then it’s a good signing for a season. If he doesn’t work out then it’s one season and we aren’t dependent on him being amazing as we’ve already got what are really first choice players in that position so win win what ever happened. Croft is far from ready and if we had to play him week in week out we’d probably break him at this stage. He will only get better learning and pushing the first teamers for their place and eventually if he’s good enough he will still be here when it’s time for them to move on and that day really won’t be that far away.

| If he’s available and we have the budget get him onboard I say ,you can’t have too many experienced players in a squad .It’s a Long season ahead and it takes its toll .so the more quality players that Chester has available the more competitive we will be .The fringe players will still play a big part I’m sure ,and I’m all for home grown talent of which we have some cracking lads who’ve acquitted themselves well when given the chance ,but we need our strongest squad on the park at all times as there is no place for sentiment .

I wouldn’t mind but CC has a reasonable record oh bringing young players on.
When you consider that we don’t always get the cream of the crop then having four first choice players from our academy is pretty good, better than in the past. Add that to another half dozen in the squad and the opportunities are there.
I don’t know about anybody else’s line of work but in my experience I don’t remember the management ever saying ‘l know we will give this new vital account to the young lad who just joined from school last week’ just doesn’t happen.
The club have to assess if Stanley is serious, if they believe he really wants to play he’s a no brainer. Knowing is the only issue and that’s why we pay the coaching staff.

Fully fit and training past I heard. He hit some very good form just before his injury last year and actually looked to have taken the centre spot for his own. I’ve no doubt he will be pushing hard for a starting centre spot.

Don’t want to burst anybody’s bubble but we are the poorest club in super league, let’s be grateful we can get Somebody of his class. Whoever we sign there’s always someone who disses it.'"
Agree totally
This guy was a class operator especially at st George and he has generally played very well for the wolf pack
When the wolf pack signed him I nearly fell of my chair as he was still good nrl stock
People who make comments based purely on what Wikipedia says and who haven’t seen him play make me howl with laughter

That's what we want, positions being fought over. No player is an automatic choice, you want the competition. Fans always say they want teams picked on form, the more quality in the team the more likely that is to happen.

| Quote: vastman "But that’s not a slap in the face that’s just how it is. No coach is going to wait for a talent to mature if someone eminently better comes along, it simply doesn’t work like that.
Let’s be honest here, Croft looked promising last year, he didn’t however look a certainty. He’s not a TJ, the jury is still very much out on this lad. I wouldn’t want to be depending on him this season, not yet.
Good news is that all the players in front of him are knocking on, including Stanley. Crofts time will come quicker than you think as those players start to drop away.
You also say trundle, which is odd, because Croft from what I’ve seen is not exactly quick for a youngster. If he were an electric centre I may agree with you but so far he’s done quite well without actually setting the house on fire. Sorry but much as I back our youngsters it’s not right to over egg them, if they are good enough they will eventually make it - see Crowther and Jowitt - it’s brutal I know but it’s how it’s always been.
Hope Croft makes it but I’m far more bothered that the team is the best we can put out and that finally we might actually win something
Trundle figuratively rather than literally. I've seen too many 30+ antipodeans flatter to deceive, take the pay and offer very little. A signing for a signings sake as someone else suggested
Anyhow if he signs he signs.

Exactly, that's a healthy figure and whenever I saw him play he always caught the eye. I'm often wary of 30+ Aussies, especially backs, but not so in this case.
Toronto was splashing huge amounts of cash and although he probably could have got another NRL contract it probably wouldn't have been on anything like the wage. So for me he's not some crock but a decent player whos become available through an odd set of circumstances.
The only issue is that the loophole we are using is available to all SL teams, so until it's not a done deal I won't get over-excited.

I get your point I honestly do but as stated on my last post his route to SL was a bit different.
'Toronto was splashing huge amounts of cash and although he probably could have got another NRL contract it probably wouldn't have been on anything like the wage. So for me he's not some crock but a decent player whos become available through an odd set of circumstances'.
He's definitely a cut above the average pension seeker. Of course, we can't be sure but due to the circumstances, I'd call it a risk well worth taking. Also, I don't think he falls into the 'A signing for a signings sake' category due to his versatility. Three positions covered to varying degrees is a lot of value for money and may prove incredibly useful.
Anyway, academic for now.

| Has he signed yet or have we finally realised it came from a ‘journalist’ who gets far more wrong then he gets right, especially in relation to Trinity

Nope, but is there any harm in us having a bit of fun and debate? These are long dark days after all.
As for being a journalist, he is in the same way Mick Gledhill is, ie not at all

It's come from Matthew Shaw has this one, and he's definitely a 'proper' journalist. I'd say he gets more right than wrong.

Do you reckon? Not sure I agree.
Anyway I personally hope this is one of his more successful stabs in the dark
