| Quote: vastman "I hope he goes, he’s too good for us and too good for SL.
We as a club and a game have let Tom down.
Twice he’s battled through injury and been better than ever. However the second time he came back to a team that had gone backwards. A team he had defended with heartfelt passion just before said injury.
Tom is a super nice lad but above all he’s a true athlete and an entertainer. He trusted the club or more importantly he trusted his coaches and fellow players to share his commitment and they simply haven’t. He has been betrayed, not the only one but certainly the most gifted.
I’ve tried to be positive but my heart sank the moment we signed Westerman, ives even defended him but signing players like him is a disaster.
No doubting the ability but he’s old now and he still has the dreadful attitude he’s always had. Nobody else wanted him except us, what were you thinking club. Brough was nearly as bad but at least Broughy has heart.
I can’t be sure but Westerman has team killer written all over him. Injuries killed us last year but this year there is clearly something wrong in the team. TJ for a start no longer looks happy when he scores, barely celebrates.
It may not be Westerman, I’m only going on his history. It could be any of them but somehow the signings we are making aren’t working?
To me they all look wrong with the exception of Wood and perhaps Tangata. Just my opinion but to me it looks like we’ve lost the spirit that made us formidable only 18 month ago.
Why would s play from the heart player like TJ want to stay for that.
Leeds under Agar? Hang your boots up now lad as that bloke will destroy you.
NRL, go for it with my support..'"
Agreed. I doubt anyone would hold it against Tom to give it a go whilst he can and i'd hope the club would allow him to so if he got the chance, whilst at the same time getting the best deal possible for the club. TJ is 25 now, he's not a young up and comer anymore and he should be in his peak over the next 3 or 4 years, fitness permitting. Outside backs don't tend to get as long at the top of their game, Ryan Hall is a perfect example of a player who left it too late to move. He's got all the materials to be a great success out there but for the sake of his career he'd need to go sooner rather than later.

I thought this two as going to another sport it’s easier to break your contract. I hope this doesn’t happen. NRL may have as much money as Union but may not value him in that bracket yet. I hope he goes to Eels instead as my team and Ferguson is stealing a wage for doing naff all.

| “It’s news to me,” Chester said.
“It doesn’t surprise me, Tom is one of our best players, is a special talent who can finish and has good leg speeds. But he’s happy here and I know the club will fight tooth and nail to keep him at Wakefield Trinity.
“I’ve nothing really to say on it but I’d like Tom Johnstone to stay. So until we hear anything from an NRL club, he’s still got another two years left of his contract.”

It is "Fifita" not "Fafita"
If you don't know the difference between "there", "their" and "they're" I might get annoyed.

| I for one (selfishly) hope he stays with us. Can't blame him though if he sees the bright lights and $$$$ signs of the NRL.

It’s the same speech every coach comes out with when they have a player linked with another club.

Oh come on it’s as good a denial as he can possibly give without putting him on rack.

| There’s an inevitability to TJ leaving at some stage I think with the injuries having already cost him two years if a big offer comes in From NRL then he’ll want to go and rightly so.
He should leave with our beat wishes and a hero. His game will go to another level over there and they are no doubt better placed to look after him physically.

| You all seem to be trying to push the lad to the other side of the world. Wouldn't it be better to try and encourage the rest of the team to aspire to the level of Tom, than encourage him to leave? The greatest asset Trinity have had in years. It would break my heart to see him turn out in a Leeds shirt. I would rather see him join Wigan. Let's try to turn Trinity into a side that Tom would be proud to be a part of. I agree £200,000 would be a welcome windfall, But didn't Mr Carter state when he took control that, " WE WERE NO LONGER A SELLING TEAM"?

That’s about right though as I remember it. What actually happened was disgraceful
He announced he was retiring as cas wouldn’t let him go
Then moved to union
Basically he lied to get out of his contract
