True although with our wayward wingers of yesteryear it was at least an even battle. Even they might have bagged a few if they were a fulltime player against the likes of South Wales, Hemel Stags, Oxford etc.
All that said he’d be a decent back up option if the price is right.

Makes absolutely no difference imo. As I referenced regarding Nottingham Forrest. None of those players had any kind of goal scoring record when Clough took over. Two years later they won a title and players who couldn’t hit a barn door were scoring at will.
Explain, please.
I think I can explain some of it. You can either play or you can’t. Some can ply at will, they are top players. Others can only play well under the right circumstances. 90% of players fall into the latter.
Liam can play, it’s upto the club especially the coach to make sure he can create the right circumstances for the players he signs.

I agreed with you on the Clough thing but you are wrong about Forrest having no goal scoring record. And more to the point they won the league with a team game not just on goal scoring.
Clough signed Peter Shilton and Archie Gemmell when they were promoted who were clearly stars of the game.
They already had the likes of Woodcock Anderson who played for England. And Martin O'Neil who given his later skills as a manager must have had a big impact on the team.
But on Kay I can't say I've seen him have a bad game so he's ok by me.
Clearly playing for Leigh and Toronto when they were the leading teams in their league has a baring on his try scoring numbers. It's not just who they were playing but also the number of opportunities he would have got.
But at the end of the day he still has to score them. I don't think Kershaw would have scored that many in the same teams.
It's all about whether he can convert it to our style of play against more defensive teams in Super League. But if Chester thinks he can, I'm ok with it.
I think some of the criticism on here is as much to do with the fact he left us than how he plays.

My thoughts exactly, the last (and most important) try still needed scoring.

My point isn’t the detail. Nobody has ever worked out how to create a perfect team in any sport and they never will, that’s what makes team sports so great.
You can just about do it in individual sports though plenty fall through the cracks but not in a team sport where the personal dynamics would baffle a quantum computer.
It’s not really about Clough the coach but the man, he knew this so he went with instinct and a decent ability to read characters. It paid off but he knew it was a gamble and he knew he needed luck and he got just enough of that to make it work.
That team under any other manager wouldn’t of worked. Ironic thing is that this was proved to Clough at Leeds where an equally enigmatic squad failed under him.
Liam Kay can play, he’s fast, he’s rugged, he’s brave and he’s now experienced. What more do folk want. I had these same arguments when we signed Finn, he may not have been a superstar but he could play rugby but people couldn’t see past his age and lack of big name reputation.
I’m willing to back Kay in the same way, he’s always been the part. When he left I wasn’t to fussed as he wasn’t a priority player and he still isn’t on many respects. However he looks a canny signing for any team to make in my book, he’s versatile and he’s a match winner in his own way and would fit in at Trinity rather well I suspect.
If we don’t sign him I won’t lose any sleep but if we do he will be one of those who I suspect could become a Trinity gem.
Just one final point. As I say some players belong in certain teams only if we are to see the best of them (see Forrest). Garen Casey springs to mind. He was brilliant for us and had he stayed I believe he would have remained so, but everywhere else he went he failed. Horses for courses.

| Yes it was a pity about Casey. He regretted leaving.
Salford just didn't work.

Probably need to see what the deal is first it could be a cheap deal that kicks in from 2021. Given the vibes I cannot see it being a big money signing like Wigan or Warrington, the club has to prepare for the future andd cannot just shut up shop. Players come and go we have had a couple already on their way next season.

Spot on. Perhaps he may get a pay off from Toronto that sees him through to the end of November.

| I’ve been impressed with him the few times I’ve seen Toronto this season. Still a good lad for the last minute winning try against cas.

Well yes, credit to him for not getting excited and dropping the ball with a clear run to the try line.
