| Quote: wakey warrior "Jowitt is still young and has had limited game time.
Before Grix came along I'm sure Max played for a couple of seasons without making a tackle. he's had the chance & to be honest & at 21 he he's played that position probably all his life he should know what he's doing.
Some players don't make it & he's one He probably could help a championship club as a second fullback or a league one club as there main fullback I really don't know what people are holding on to. The truth he's signed three year deal the same as we gave Owen is that naivety on MC's part'"
Jowitt played one season before Grix signed, other than this year his appearances have be sporadic since. He may not make it but at the moment IMO he's on a par with Grix and can get better.
Time will tell, but anyone expecting us to sign the next Billy Slater are going to be majorly disapointed. Those kind of players don't sign for us.
Food for thought, we have got to fifth place, potentially for two seasons on the bounce, with these 'sub-standard' fullbacks. That's not bad going.

| For my money Max Jowitt is the future he is learning all the time and I have no doubt with the right coaching become a top quality full back.
If makes me laugh when Trinity fans say we can push for the top 4 with our budget and finish higher than who Sts Wigan Cas Wire
Added to that next season Leeds Hull FC Catalan will all be stronger

The fact is Trinity punch well above their weight every season and without stadium development that sadly I cant ever see being delivered we should enjoy what we have while it lasts because without it our super league days are over.

Why? So he can be roundly criticised for his lack of pace too?? He may have been as safe as the Bank of England but I can't see that he would be any better than Max in terms of Fullback play these days. The game has changed a lot since Spencer.

| I can’t beleive anyone would seriously say that QLT, as nice a bloke as he is, is either good enough or physically up to a full year of SL rugby.

The only justification from anyone on this forum has been that “he’s one of our young lads”. It doesn’t mean anything, he’s not good enough yet people are blinded because they want him to follow in the footsteps of Johnstone.
I don’t want people to jump and say I’m like the rest, I’d love Max to secure the fullback shirt it would be another success for the club in terms of academy production and would surely benefit the club financially however comparing our fullbacks to other clubs, we’re embarrasingly far behind.

I was a fan of Mamo when he came over, as he sparked Hudds revival last season but since then he's been very mediocre and has been found to not be able to tackle or pass the ball, which is why he's ended up on the wing!

| Full back is a position where any mistake is multiplied in severity because it would probably lead to a try being scored. It is much like a goalkeeper in football who are subject to the same scrutiny that is not placed on other players.
Jowitt is not the best in SL but he is definitely not the worst, they all have their bad days.
The games I have seen with the exception of St Helens I think he has played well doing everything expected of a full back. He is the immediate future so I would suggest you get use to it.

Given the way Hull fans have spoke about Shaul this year I think he can be taken out of the list. Mamo has ended up not playing or on the wing and dropped at FB for 2 half backs in either Gaskell or Rankin. To get the quality of Barba/Tomkins/Gigot you would have to pay a small fortune and upset your current squad. Plus with your chairman being open about salary cap etc it isn't going to happen. Of the times I have seen Grix over the last couple of years (and I know its only sky games) apart from the odd error hes looked solid to be fair. To me you have a very rounded squad at the moment with enough to challenge the so called bigger teams when on song. Maybe that extra from full back could be the catalyst to shoot you further up but at what expense to the cap and squad?
The little I have seen of Jowitt I too think a lack of gametime has hindered him. You can also see why from the club point of view its such a pivotal position nowadays and with the risk of the 8s etc if the coaches feel more confident in someone else they will play first. Hopefully with this new structure he will have the chance to play regularly to properly learn his trade. The more young english kids we have playing in SL the better. This isn't a pop at you but this is where licensing was a great idea without the threat of relegation teams could risk playing the youngsters

TBH I think what we need to take us to the next level is a good organising half with a kicking game and a lot of us recognise that including CC, It is something that we have missed a lot, and could of made a hell of a difference in those tight games this season and last - IMO we have not had a good in play kicking game since Brough.
Lets be honest we have never had an extremely talented fullback in the Tomkins/Hardaker mold to go the full length from kick returns, don`t get me wrong it would be nice to have that but I don`t think it is something we really miss in our style of play.

Disagree on a few of your points...
I think Miller has had a good consistent season for me and is one of our main threats with ball in hand, with the right partner I think he will flourish even further - Most try assists in the league just shows how much he creates for the team.
England - 24 games last season, 22 games this season which is a good return for a prop that runs the ball in like he does, I dont think that is a massive issue.
I think Huby was having a good season prior to injury and had a decent season last season - Granted he is not a blockbusting prop and probably not as good as he used to be but I think he still brings something to the team and never seems to take a backwards step.
Hirst has the potential and has got better in his time with us, simple errors leave me frustrated with him but I cant imagine he is on a massive wedge so I would not mind him in the squad for cover for inevitable injuries.
Agree on Baldwinson, Kirmond and a new 7.
