Those same players all suffered from meeting the supposed hard men.
Both existed. That's just a fact. You didn't go one game without someone targeting Topliss or in this example Lewis. DT enjoyed more protection when he went to Hull.
Lewis had more protection when Gill played because they had to worry about what he was going to do as well.
Topper would be even better in the modern game as would Lewis because of the extra protection he would get.
