Was that Simpson who made the last attempt at a tackle? Looked less like flying past him and more like a big fend.
Lovely stuff!

| I've been a Tom fan since he played in the Leeds friendy two years ago. At that point I just thought we'd managed to produce for the future a SL quality winger of our own.
e has everything, pace, power, desire and strength that's always been obvious. What wasn't so obvious was his tremendous work ethic and ability to learn.
He's had a few blips but everytime he's come back better than before. He's a smart boy who wants a glittering career and he will get one injuries permitting.
I think Trinity fans have been slow to realise what we have here but I can't blame them as class doesn't come through very often at this club. What we now need to do is enjoy this lad for every minute he plays for us, even the times when he will lose form because he won't be here for that long and I can't blame him.
The only thing that will stop Tom scoring 30+ a season is his team mates. At the moment he's making nearly all his own tries and no one can keep that up for ever. Whether that happens here or elsewhere who knows but if he continues as he is he will be an international very soon.
Good luck Tom, you play the game as if you enjoy it and your desire to entertain shines through, good lad.
Note: It's also good to see his partner in crime Jowitt looking nearly as good. Don't think we can keep Johnstone but Jowitt you could build around. Also like to see Crowther and Shulver given a run as they too seem to have a very similar attitude. Odd isn't it that these four players came from a not very successfull Academy team and at least two are well on the way to SL regulars whilst the very successfull team before them has only produced Anakin who for me is yet to really shine. That scenario is not as uncommon as you think.

Was a junior sprint champion, only a split second short of qualifying for the GB set up I'm told. Not a guarantee as being fast on a track is not the same as on a ptch but it's a start.

Ukuma Ta'ai, he waltzed past Simpson easily, but to be fair to Ukuma, he was the only one who thought it worthwhile to chase him to the sticks

| What's annoying to see now is that other people are saying it was more bad defending than anything else - no credit to Johnstone for basically embarrassing them. Wonder if the colours of the shirt were different more people would be giving credit.

| It wasn't the best defending and if Trinity had conceded that try I'd be fuming but I take your point. Manfredi stepped a few Saints players in broken play and he was hailed as having great feet.

| Only said to a mate 5 mins before he scored that try that your winger had played well all the game. If that had been a for a top club Sky would be raving about it. Very well taken and glad he got MOTM for you.
Congrats on the win too. Well deserved.

To be fair to sky they do make a big deal of the try on their site!
Tom is a joy to watch.
I've watched Trinity since 1960 and seen some great wingers, Prinsloo, Hirst, Fred Smith and Coetzer to name a few. Tom Johnstone is the only winger I have seen playing for us in donkeys years with the potential to be as prolific as the ones I name.
I make no apology for naming only 60's wingers - for me they were the best I've ever seen.

Ah yeah! Give him the ball with an inch to spare and it was a certain try!

Slater was good no doubt about it but he wasn't round for long enough.

If Tom was wearing a Wigan, Leeds, Wire or Saints jersey, the whole RL world would be raving about his 2 tries but, as it's "only" Wakefield it's not quite as good.
Moments like Sunday make the suffering as a Trin fan worth while.
Apart form Andy Wilson going 90 metres against Bradford ?, I cant remember a try like that by anyone in a Wakefield shirt in the last 30 years.
He made the defence look crap by his strength, agility, pace and power.
I'm fairly sure that all of them wanted to tackle him.

I haven't seen nothing but praise for his second try? As for the first, that's an excellent pass from Jowitt to put him over.
