He didn't do too well a KR and with a much higher playing budget ??
Great that he's a Wakey fan but, it matters not where they are from, it only matters that they can help the club progress.

| Chester went from an assistant coach straight into a head coach role at a super league club, with no step down to the championship to be a head coach.
In that time, Hull KR have been more successful than us, by far. I think they narrowly missed out on the top 8 in 2014 and 2015. He has also taken them to Wembley.
On top of that, he is a Wakey lad, a Wakey fan, and is immediately available.
I think he has been very unfortunate has Chester, given the injuries Hull K R have had so far.
I think to bring in Chester to the end of the season at least, would be a good move.

| I don't care where they are from as long as they are right for the role.
Being a fan could even work against someone as they'd be more emotional about decisions.
I actually agreed with what MC says in his interview. The right person needs to understand where Wakefield are now and where they are going.
That means you need to accept there isn't unlimited money and you have to work with what you have. We don't have the best facilities but find a way to make it work.
We don't expect to be at the Grand Final but we want to improve and get the best from the team we have and do enough to bring more supporters in.
Who that guy is I don't know. Kear ticked those boxes but we need a newer model (I'd be happy if he came back though)
If I was interviewing though, one thing I'd do is see if I can get something like the Sky screen and get them to analyse both a game we didn't play in, showing what they like about the play, why they think it would suit Wakefield and how they would bring that to Wakefield, and also, a Wakefield game, showing where they think they can improve things.

He has served a very long apprenticeship and successful one under Powell. Please MC choose someone like him and give him time look at Widnes with Betts'"
Bett's had time due to thee being no relegation.
Whoever comes to Wakefield needs to hit the ground running and start to get results or improvement quickly.
Sheriden may be a good shout but, it's a step into the unknown.

| If Cas were in the same situation as we find ourselves in, I'm quite sure Powell's successor would come from Danny Orr, or Ryan Sheridan.
Sheridan is highly rated and respected by all down at Cas for his contribution towards their success, there might be better qualified people than him apply assuming he does, and the likelyhood of him getting it is slim to none, but personally I'd sooner see him get it than some of the names been thrown about on here.

| A new coach does not have to hit the ground running, he has got the rest of the season to prepare for the middle 8`s, to manage his squad so that the key players, England, Howarth, Simon, Anakin, 2 x Toupos , Aruna are in the best possible shape and fresh for the middle 8 `s, to be fully clued up on the middle 8 sides from the championship, to work out a game plan to suit our limited playing abilities and to get some fire into some of our players. If the likes of Anderson are not up for a fight play Yates, Walker, Shuvler etc.

| JD for me, if he is one of the applicants.
As for Chris Chester, he got away with a poor season because of a Wembley trip (and a dire result that was). It doesn't matter that he's a Wakey fan. Kear is a lifelong Cas fan but he had no issue with coming in for six games and relegating them.
With our squad, we can't afford to have bad morale. It's got to be someone who will get more out of players than they would ordinarily give, because they want to. Powell did that at Cas straight away, and that success has enabled him to build a very good squad.

| Whoever we bring in will not have the pedigree of the one we have just lost and let's face it the average honeymoon period with some on the forum is the next defeat.

I don't know about JD to be honest - He appears to have done really well where he is and has been over the last couple of years.
He is a big fans favourite because of the passion and commitment he showed here as a player.
Would he risk that by coming back to hold the poisoned chalice, given the way our "fans" have treated/behaved towards recent coaches?
I think we all know that this squad, even though it is one of the best and is the most expensive we have had, is not of the same quality as the majority of other teams in SL. It's a big risk for him to relocate his family halfway round the world again, lose a few games and his reputation amongst our fickle fans goes from near legend to another failure.
I'd like him to come and give it a try but I just don't see what's in it for him!!

I agree. That's why I added the caveat about whether he has applied. I'd be surprised if he did, because he hasn't made enough inroads yet as an assistant, and giving up a good role at a big NRL club to potentially fail in Super League is a real risk. Also, thinking back, his children will be a bad age to uproot. Might work when they're babies but not when they're settled in schools and with friends.
I think whoever does it has to have an understanding of the type of club Wakey is, which is why JD is a good Australian example, because it sounds like Brian Smith did not understand it as well as he should have.
Dickens might surprise us, you never know, but assistants stepping-up only works for a short time. Think Tony Smith in 2005 but then 2006. Think James Webster in 2014 and then 2015. Think Chris Chester even.

| I have no idea what B S was told after the M P G but for a frosty relationship to develop from December probably means little or no communication . How can a club operate under those circumstances. Thermals required for our next coach both in the changing rooms and the club in general.

| I would seriously consider JK, JD, Rowley and Morrison as I think they would be a good fit for the predicament we are in.
I know very little of Toovey and would be surprised if he is someone we could entice. If he did come, as long as he brought some Australian professionalism and his experience at Manly rubs off we could do well.
I'm not interested in Chester - too inexperienced and unproven for me. I'd also not be keen on Harrison, Goulding, Poching (although I'd welcome him as assistant) and a few other names banded about.
15 initial inquiries and probably more now means there are a lot of CVs to rifle through before conducting interviews. This could take 2-3 weeks at least.
