| Quote: wildshot "As for recent comments on players professionalism and taking pride in their physical fitness there is some merit to it.
I live close to Hull and I've seen Danny Houghton out on runs by himself. That is going beyond the set club routine of organised training and get yourself off to the gym lads.
I wonder how many of our lads put the extra time in by themselves which is not seen by the club?'"
Hey repeatedly lifting those cups in costa is hard work you know.

| Although the players' fitness doesn't look good, as a team , we don't exactly help ourselves.
Ball retention in the first half yesterday wasn't bad and we kept in the game.
Second half, we must have "defended" twice as many sets as Cas, which is going to tire any team.
Having said that, our attitude to tackling is utterly woeful.
In contact, we seem happy to just stop the attacking player, rather than dominating them.
Yesterday, there was no attempt to put the Cas players on their backs and almost every time they actually completed a tackle, the Cas players
were able to quickly get into a position to play the ball, compared to the "wrestle" that Cas put in, we were shocking.
This gives us less time to organise our defence and we certainly made it easy for our local rivals. Also when we had 2 and 3 players in the tackle on Webster, they just weren't effective and he still set up 2 simple tries for his winger.
Is this down to fitness, desire or technique ?
The most disappointing thing yesterday was the lack of response from a group of players who get paid to play RL and has been asked, only last week, if they wanted to play for the club.
Also, knowing that the new coach would probably be watching, why weren't they trying to impress Brian Smith.?

We've been trying all season and we still haven't got it organised.

I guess the short answer is, they don't really need to. With the possible exception of maybe a few journey men who aren't good enough to get game time at their current clubs, what he's got is pretty much what he's stuck with. I'm pretty sure there isn't going to be a wholesale moving of players in and out.
Our new man will know he has to more or less work wonders with the players he has now. The players will also know that too.

| Quote: vastman "Normally I think the fitness thing is a bit of a red herring - however a number of players looked out of condition - either overweight or just not athletic enough.
Ryan looks frankly a physical wreck
Kirmond podgy
D.Smith very podgy
Lynes physique has not changed in three years.
Owen, a stone overweight easy
Ditto Washbrook
All bad news but what's really bad is the utter lack of stamina and that is IMHO what real fitness is.'"
And because they aren't fit enough it contributes to a lack of intensity from the first minute

| Aing to radio Leeds its nothing to do with fitness. It bloody well is I have a degree and numerous fitness qualifications were sluggish and on our ass around 50minutes. The strength in our team is not there either we made McMeeken look like a 20stone bodybuilder couldn't bring him down.
We are slow and very powder puff!
Infac we are all round pathetic!
