Unofficially the most boring poster on Cherry and White.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_5733.jpeg

I find this one a bit odd to be honest. Firstly there is the age issue and add to that his performances have dropped off dramatically in the last few years. I am sure he would still have the ability to get Eddie and Stevo wetting themselves in excitement as he did the odd eye catching drive, for them to turn a blind eye to his missed tackles and low minutes in the pitch.

Secondly I am sure he served time in prison which given the visa situation is a significant issue for him ever getting an opportunity to play in SL.

Either way from a performance point of view not up to it anymore. Certainly not the player he was. If you can afford to have a luxury player in your 17 worth a punt I guess but I don't think many of the coaches these days think there is room for a luxury player anymore.

Sorry but a prop at 35 years of age is up against it because of his age and then adapting to SL, I don't really care what his name is.
One name I'm more interested in signing up is Richard Moore. He's been busting a gut for us and in my opinion has a couple more years at the top - get him signed up as a priority.

Is he really that much of a draw for the part time fans??

I would guess anyone who is that keen on Rugby League to watch the NRL on a regular basis will more than likely be down at Belle Vue most weeks, and if they are not, is a 35 year old who hardly plays anymore really going to force them to part with there hard earned????
If we re sign Moore, that's one prop that our coach & his predecessor think can only play in 10/15 min spells. Not sure we can carry 2 in the squad, especially not when one of them will want a serious last payday.

Spot on, sense at last.

If it were not for his odd name very few people would have ever heard of him. Even at his best he was never IMHO a world beater. His box office appeal for the floating fans is no greater than your average SL prop - which is zero - and IMHO wouldn't gain us a single extra fan.

If Moimoi is what counts as a marquee signing in SL these days then I despair. icon_thumb.gif

Calm Waters don't make good sailors If you help somebody as you go along then your life hasn't been in vain:

Agree with people stating his drop off in form and age etc so it would be a no from me. The only way I would have him, which doesn't happen now much is pay per game contract. I feel he does still have a slight draw factor but not enough to shell out our pennies for him unless as I say on pay per game. For me a lot comes down to honesty of the player and whether they will give you all their efforts. There is a cost to get him over here etc and there is better options available.

Is there such a thing as a pay as you play deal nowadays? I have heard it mentioned a few times on here with relation to an older or slightly injury prone player, but how can you make sure you are spending within your budget/salary cap when you don't know how many times you are going to pay someone??

You get basic and then appearance money on top. Quite simply if someone is getting more money from the club and it can't afford it, they could choose not to play them so are only paying basic.

I don't think those sort of deals are relevant in the modern game - I would imagine any player worth anything wouldn't agree to such terms, especially if he is moving halfway round the world.

Some contracts may be incentivised towards performance/appearances but I can't imagine anyone being on a wholly pay-as-you-play basis these days.

As said before the NRL is loaded with southsea islanders that would do a better job and have more longevity.

Yep, lets sign up a player based on his first decent game in years (take your word on that) - added to that he's in the shop window

If you think that's the player you're going to get in SL then IMHO you need to look at the recent history of the game.

People can take my word no more than your word that its his first decent game in years, although that comment in it's self makes me wonder if you can be taken seriously at all on the judgement of a players ability
Please define years? 3 years ago he was a kiwi international and a Tongan international last season

Clearly didn't watch Friday night footy or you wouldn't be making comments of that nature

Me taken seriously, here we go.

The fact that you quote 3 years ago as an example of his ability shows how far off the mark credibility wise you are - would you like a list of players who were top of their game three years ago but aren't now - come on.

As for the last comment not making sense REALLY!

Anyway here goes for a second time - if 35 year old props of limited ability IMO who are no longer wanted in the NRL are the way you want our club and our game to go then I despair, I really do. It's this short termism that's got SL in the mess it's in. If we must bring in overseas players lets at least sign one who have a future rather than just a past. Hope that helps.

To preempt what I'm sure is coming next, yes I'm aware Big Ali is even older and is still with a contract - however is you think their motives and ability are similar I think you're wrong.

I said he played on Friday and was excellent,

You said he's not played a decent game in years, if you want to use years then 3 years ago he was a kiwi international, you with it now? prob not lol
