| As much as Rich has a bad reputation I do feel for him slightly. I'd say he's not the smartest kid, so breaking into the team at a young age. Been bogged as a world beater (Were good at Cas for that) and getting put on big money actually got into his head a few years ago. He thought he was untouchable. The last thing he then needed was Ryan McGoldrick as a role model.
He has now started to settle down. And does plenty of good things but it's the odd brain fart he has that costs him a regular place in the side.
I'm sure he's contracted for next year, but we're not keen on paying him his wage for a 4th choice winger, and I think Hull wanted to loan him but he asked to go to you to be local. It's a chance for him to earn a new start

| If its true give the lad a chance lets face it we have had our share of problem players in the past and a lot have turned out to be good for us.

Exactly! everybody deserves a second chance, if he's grown up a bit and wants to prove himself playing for us, then, welcome aboard!

| It's all about whether the player can do a decent job for us.
No problem with him being a Cas player, as long as he helps us beat them each time we play.
Not a world beater but, I don't think we can afford those at the moment.

| Would be relatively happy. The guy clearly has talent but as has been said can be a bit of a "door handle" at times.
If as some of the Cas fans have said he has turned a corner then lets welcome him on board and see what he can do in the Red White and Blue.

| Whats the difference between a dog and a Trinity fan?
Dogs eventually learn!
We go through this same ludicrous argument every time we sign an English player who is not absolutely perfect. Yet we lord every has been Aussie we sign.
When did Richard Owen become a bad player. Yep he's probably not lived up to the hype he got at Cas but few players do.
However he was a good player and may well regain his form with us - tons of players have in recent times.
I'd list the ones who got a similar and typical response to this but I can't be bothered.
I'll just go for one, Richard Moore - universally slated by the normal suspects because like Owen he's lost his way a bit.
Has since given this club two wonderful stints as a player.
If it's Owen give the lad a chance for heavens sake.

| If true, good signing.Has ability and certainly knows the way to the try line.
Not interested in his past misdemeanors as long as he performs for us.

Agree. We need a winger/finisher and he's probably what we can afford. BC turned out well for us, a bit of regular first team rugby and we might be able to unlock that potential. Players with a point to prove usually do well at Belle Vue.

| So if it is Owen then who is the one to make way for him, Riley or maybe Fox?

| Vasty is pretty much bang on with his post.
I think the reasons for the people not in favour are two fold:
1: I think all the ridicule from him knocking Santa up and down Ponte leave some people feeling egg-faced
2: The idea that you're now signing 4th choice Cas players, I understand is a little disheartening.
In actuality I think if you've tempted Richie to take a pay cut then it's not a terrible signing. He's bang average but not a bad player by any means. He rarely has a bad game but will never do anything special.
This is great news for Cas as it frees up a huge amount of financial space without losing a "key asset" and it also strengthens Wakefield's back line.
Everyone's a winner baby that's the truth

I would guess Mathers to be dropped unless Riley goes back to Warrington.

| How is signing a fourth choice winger from Cas a step forward.
He'll be on more than Liam Kaye.
