| Obvously those who didnt see the team of the sixties have to be convinced at the quality it possessed.Yes the players are fit athletes full time training gives them that In thosedays the top sides were saints wigan and ourselves, but different to today it was thebig games we won.Im thinking of games like st helens away the first time we went to wembly in the sixties. The wembly final wins over huddersfield and wigan and the champioship final win over st helens. like jaques says over the years since then weve had some great players but il try and pick ateam of players that stuck in my mind and at the time i thought no one could touch them 1 gerry round 2 fred smith 3 alan skene 4 neil fox 5 gert coetzer 6 harold poynton/david topliss 7 keith holiday 8 jack wilkinson 9 joby shaw 10 trever skerrett 11david solomona 12 bill ashurst 13 derek turner I realize lads who didnt see the sixties side can only go on descriptions given by us olduns .I could have included the fastest wingman i saw that wa berwyn jones, centres like ian brooke and a host of forwards of the calibre of don vines, brian briggs and that great aussie ray price. In holliday and turner whoes aggression around the scums gave the opposing halfs nightmares and that included greats like alex murphy at st helens and dave bolton at wigan turner was not just an enforcer he had plenty of pace skilful with ball in hand and was a ferocious tackler.

Been watching since the mid 80's and of all the wingers we have had i struggled for a class one. Had to move JD & Mason out there to a.) get them in and b.) as i would rate them both above Semi, Wilson, Ryder, Fox, Jones, Law etc

Mason on the wing is a good call.

| Quote: PopTart "I'm finding this hard as I've watched since mid 70s and there are a lot of players who deserve a place. The hard part is to pick good players while they were at Wakefield rather than players who were great before arriving and were getting old with us, like Steve Norton for instance. Great player in his day.
So I'm going for
1) Henry Paul
2) Andrew Fletcher
3) Keith Smith
4) Sid Domic
5) Jason Demetriou
6) Wally Lewis
7) Mike Lampkowski
I can't believe I missed Nigel Bell out. I'm going to have to put him in as hooker.

| Off the top of my head based only on players i saw play
Henry Paul
David Jones
Andy Mason
Sid Domic
Ryan Atkins
Nigel Wright
Geoff Bagnall
Jonny Thompson
Nigel Bell
Darren Fritz
David Solomona
Michael Jackson
Gareth Ellis
Willie Poching
Andy Kelly
Shane Tronc
Adrian Shelford
Special mentions for JD, Gary Price, Richard Slater, and all those i didnt see play.
Was tempted by Richard Goddard or Adam Hughes on the wing, but went for putting Ryan Atkins there as i reckon he would be a very good winger.

Absolutely spot on as a very young boy I was privileged to watch that team, there was some tough nuts in there as well. Got to know the coach ken trail really after he retired, have got lots of stories but as they say that is for another day. One of his main regrets was not signing Mick Shoebottom, the chairman at that time was not convinced. By the time he won him over it was too late and Leeds had signed him.
