Apart from his discipline, I actually thought Cross had a good game. This won't go down well with many, but I reckon we'd have a more formidable pack with in it.

As for Thaler, I reckon he's one of the better ones and reffed it well on Friday. I did think we were fortunate with Raleigh's try, but that was down to the video referee.

Quote: J20 "First off as haven't done so yet, congrats on a good and deserved win and good look for the rest of the season certainly showed god signs on Friday!

On the other hand Betts has a bit of a point. If you read the article / see interview on SKY he does say our discipline let us down once you win the ruck. I didn't go away thinking that the ref altered the game at all but I did feel the ruck area was a bit inconsistent and made it tough for us to get a roll on. That's a credit to your defence btw as you all know your push the ref to his limits though there were a few times I felt Thaeler was inconsistent there.

Ben Cross was outstanding until the final stages when yes his discipline cost us which was annoying as he was the senior player out there with Clarke off the pitch.'"

I'd agree about Cross. He was good but should have been better in discipline terms. It was hardly a big deal that he blew up about. There were plenty of high shots that went unpunished so a penalty there was not such a terrible thing.
I thought the whole Widnes pack were particularly big compared to us and in the first 10-20 really dominated and made a lot of yards as well as crunching in the tackle. Unfortunately I also thought Agar's game plan worked very well for this situation.
The likes of Southern and Washbrook tackled everything early on and even though we were being bashed about your guys didn't take advantage.
Once your guys ran out of steam without racking up the points it allowed us to take control.
You'll beat plenty of team sthis year once you get your half backs sorted.

Part of Cross's problem is having played for Leeds and then Wigan he is not used to getting decisions given against him.
Like it or not, the bigger teams tend to get the 50/50 calls and he better get his head round that or he'll spend a lot of time this season being penalised or binned.

It's almost as if Scott Moore didn't actually saycut to ribbons'"

and it must have been a dream when Stefan Marsh, you remember Dennis, that fella that was stood there in a Widnes shirt playing for that team you coach, saidiPitch? iSh*te more like...'"

Just because you delete something from the internet doesn't mean it didn't exist in the first place. But hey, you carry on telling Richie Mathers to "man up". Clearly your own players did when they got told off and deleted their tweets... naughty boys!! c020.gif

Sums up the game pretty well really that. Was impressed with our pack but didn't make enough of 'our time' whereas you bagged 4 unanswered tries in the last 20mins. First choice full back and stand off back should help though.

Too early to judge but I'd say at least 2 / 3 sides could well be below us both (alternative to most predictions).

If this is trying to take the viewtopic.php?f=33&t=421878 it's failed, big time. Mathers is the one complaining about it so wouldn't he be the one wearing it? icon_wink.gif

As far as mathers is concerned, posting them pictures on twitter is fine by me. Only as a statement to show the conditions he was playing in. However I do think he should give the I-pitch time. We got the game going in minus temperatures? It was never going to be pretty, just look at the Leeds and Salford games. Lots of cuts, scrapes and grazes.

As far as I'm aware the I-pitch has to be watered on a consistent basis. I believe this was restricted on Friday as obviously the water would freeze on the surface. This left a frosty surface behind which took no prisoners.

Agreed it was not ideal conditions for a superleague game but your all glad it went ahead aren't you?

Maybe they did get told to remove it. Maybe they just did themselves.

But eveb your own players since seeing posts after Salford vs Cas stopped going on about it being related to the pitch... Bar Mathers.

Could that be due to the amount of Widnes supporters being rather vile to him at any chance?
Is he not allowed to defend himself?

Just a thought.

Dennis Betts should keep his trap shut. His team got 'well beat' in the end, by a side who are probably gonna finish in the bottom 4 in SL. (sorry)
And also he should realise how LUCKY he is to be coaching a side in SL, no-one but Widnes would have given him such a job (he took the role, knowing they would be voted in), and he couldn't hack it in the championship. Back to 'kick & clap' for Betts when Widnes eventually sack him, it's only a matter of time.
