taking of mismanagement we shouldn't be in a position where there is a lack of rugby league talent, the sports been going for over a hundred years and yet England struggles to produce anything like a good flow of quality players

Quote: jonh "Dont blame RA for the shocking use of young players under the last coach. Kear basically held back players hindering there development in order to use them as pawns to get a SL licence.

By holding back players he basically ensured they would be lost to top flight rugby league.

It's a bit like blaming the current government for the financial mess the country is in now.'"

So not content with constantly spouting shiit about rugby league you are now straying off into pseudo economics? icon_lol.gif LAUGHABLE

Rl has been badly mismanaged but we are now again on the cusp in my opinion with the young players about to hit the Super League in the next 3 years. It seems finally we are reducing overseas players, making allowances for club products. It's a great time after perhaps 20 years of looking after individual clubs rather than the game.

super league
Lack of relegation
Reduction of the quota
Allowances on the cap for club produced players

4 changes that will in my opinion see us finally be realistically competitive with Australia within the next 5 years.

And let's not forget your own beloved club forming a partnership/becoming the bitch of a Union club, in what appears to be an attempt to undo lots of that good work by opening up a clear pathway for promising youngsters to get better paid jobs in the other code.

All that, so they could hold on to Tomkins S for another season or so; from the outside looking in, it's slightly pathetic.

Go on then - trot out the party line, as endorsed by the Wigan polit-bureau, as to how this is a wonderful deal for the whole RL community and not in any way an example of IL getting bent over and vigorously shafted by some posh blokes at Saracens.

Meanwhile, I agree with your suggestion that young players were ill-used under Mr Kear; there has been no proper pathway to SL for our Academy products and the dual-reg system was criminally under-utilised.

Back on topic - if its Gareth Moore I won't be very happy.
I had high hopes for him next season.

There do seem to be a fair bit of smoke where Mr Agar is concerned re: the younger players.

I am getting a tad concerned myself. icon_eek.gif

If it is him then I'm not that bothered and will trust Agars judgement. Moore is not a 'young un' he has been around
long enough to break into SL and has not yet done so. Lets not forget he came through the Leeds system and they
had the same opinion of him as Agar.

People going on about all the young players going have a point but just for one minute look at it from a slightly different point of view. Had we not been in the position we were at the beginning of the year most of these young players wouldn't even be on our radar. How many can say they knew anything about Veivers or Howarth, other than what they read in the odd academy report? Yes there are exceptions such as Johnson and Mariano, but they are few and far between. The fact is like it or not we have/had a lot of players on our books who would not have seen the first team of any super league club let alone ours had the financial situation been different. Players like Moore (if it is him) were signed for life in the championship. Who can honestly say that the players released so far would be picked ahead of any of the new signings? Also let's not forget these players from last year were signed on professional super league contracts not scholarship or academy wages. For the first time in a long time we are being run as a proper business and everybody knows that there is no room for sentiment in business. As harsh as it is somebody has to cut the chaff from the wheat. Agar may come out to be the bad guy by releasing certain players, but he has restrictions, budgets to adhere to and a boss to answer to. How many of our released (not sold) young players from the past have ever really come back to bite us?

Yes he is young, but lets not forget players like Gaskill, Tomkins, Eastmond, Lomax are younger and have all eclipsed him.
We even have Wildie who is younger and a much better player IMHO. No doubt many other clubs have players younger than Moore who have better talent.

Like other posters have said I really think he is not SL ready and probably never will be .

We will have to agree to disagree then, I think he has a lot of potential myself.

Moore for me is not a bad player but is one of those who is not S/L standard but better than championship standard.I always look at it this way how many youngsters in the past have we let go yes some will come back and haunt you but the vast amount wont make the grade.Remember years ago we had one in the colts who looked good he even went on to play for GB colts but ended up at Doncaster when they were at the very bottom in the late seventies it would be.Out of interest who remembers his name give you a clue he ended up playing prop for them far removed from where he played for the colts.

I am getting a tad concerned myself. as far as obst is concerned i can guarantee you he will not be coming to wakefield. been told by ra already that he is not in his plans. after telling him 2 months ago that he was. ewan is still waiting after being told by ra that he was in his plans he had heard nothing else after numerous phone calls. good news for obst is , one of my mates tell me that leeds might be interested.
