| Let's not selectively pick a convenient snapshot in time when assessing what constitutes a big club!
Historically Wakefield Trinity is as big if not bigger and more famous than Hull FC.

Very true and I agree with the other Wakefield posters who say Hull are the biggest underachievers in SL.
But at this convenient snapshot in time, surely the most die hard Wildcats fan would admit the weight of expectation you will place on your next coach will not be as heavy as what Hull FC's current coach has had to endure from us lot.
That's why I believe Agar will thrive in a slightly less pressurised environment and why he could be good for you if appointed.

I see where you're coming from and if everyone was being objective I would agree with you. The board's aim is mid-table next year so they are not going to put the same pressure on as Agar's replacement will have. The trouble is
a) fan's are not that objective and often want more than can be realistically achieved
b) all other teams who have not performed well this year will be aiming for the same. Not everyone will succeed so to really get mid-table we will have to do a LOT better than this year
c) if there is not that amount of improvement then the "establishment" in RL will see us over-promising and under-delivering again, which will harden their attitude rather than changing it.
That means the pressure is really on.
Often when someone takes on a top job for the first time they fail to a greater or lesser extent and the good ones learn a lot from it, making a success of their second jobs. We wait to see if that learing has taken place or whether they follow the rule of "promotion to their level of incompetence".

Good post. Interesting point you make about the governing body. I hope you make the 8 next year, think you will if you get more good signings in. If Agar does end up being your coach I'd imagine he would bring Obst and a few others with him.

| Agar got promoted to Headcoach and cleared out a lot of deadwood players, this was a difficult task for any club...He then built a decent squad, and brought about some good ethics, he was not shy getting rid of deadwood like Tansey.
He has brought some good young players through, Briscoe & Houghton being the 2 that stand out the most.
Agar is a good coach for Wakey imo, he will build a squad, bring good ethics and most importantly he will have learnt a lot of lessons form his time as Headcoach at FC.
His results have been short this year but the brand of rugby we have started to play is very entertaining.
I wish Agar and yourselves the best of luck, I sincerely believe he will improve things for you.

I've previously stated elsewhere he will have my backing but it is refreshing to see the more intelligent Hull FC fans coming on here saying positive things about him.
I personally don't think he has been a total disaster for Hull and it does sound like he knows how to sort his staff out.
Let's put it this way Hull are higher up the league than us and play better rugby. Let's take it from there....

Which goes back to the point about coaching having a shelf life; you can only deliver your motivational speech so many times to one group of people, before it becomes so much background noise.

| Might be down to timing.
JK was a god first 3 possibly 4 seasons, so it will be interesting to see how long RA contract will be.

| Agar will go well for you. He has had to do his job at Hull with one hand tied behind his back due to the pevious board. I'm glad he's left Hull, but mainly because he was on a hiding-to-nothing and things had become untenable for him. Had he started his career at Hull under a different board then maybe things would have worked out slightly different. I genuinely hope he succeeds with you.

| For what it's worth here is my view on the RA situation.
If as is being touted RA is our next coach, then although having an initial feeling of being underwhelmed by the appointment, it is not a reason to become totally disillusioned as some seem to be by his appointment.
Let's look at it in another light. RA in a lot of ways has been the old Hull boards patsy for their own importance these past few years. Kath Hetherington and the board would have been pulling the strings and hiring and firing, it was plain for all to see. I would even think the Hull contingent that frequent this board would agree.
So with the arrival of Adam Pearson came the end of RA's career at Hull. I was a guest in the hostility at the Hull/Leeds Challenge Cup game and having just that day taken control of Hull FC Adam Pearson made his opening speech and at the end of the game and the look on his face you knew that RA's time was at an end.
Quite funny since that day and with the release of the controlling pressure of the old board and the axe from AP that Hull have become one of the better teams in the comp and are looking a tight fluent unit.
Funny how things change isn't it.
Also if as stated RA is good mates with JE well what's the problem. It's a positive, this friendship can only be a good thing in communication's between CE and Coach. Trust!
So maybe he will follow in his fathers footsteps and become coach at Wakey, I for one will look to the future and not his past!
