Fox, Riley, Ainscough, Halley, Burnet, Pryce, Gardner, (Cockayne?)
All mediocre ish to a lesser or greater degree wingers either available or rumoured to be available - I don't think there is any need to keep an ageing import when there all these potential options available. Granted non of them world beaters but let's not kid ourselfes about how good Semi is.'"
George is a centre
Griffin has been awful for reasons well known
Johnson can't defend and I mean can't
Morton apart from Cas has done well and you have a point he is a proper winger.
The rest are OK apart from Cockend who isn't a winger but do they want to join us?
I think you are being dogmatic. Semi offers something none of the other wingers do. He runs the ball up strongly and he hurts the opposition literally - none of our other backs really do that just yet. Murphy is getting close but he still doesn't offer what Semi does he offers an extra dimension. What I've seen of him so far he hasn't lost it. Excuse the pun but Semi is hard and we lack that IMO.

I agree that Semi is in the mould of the winger that suits us best, speedsters are wasted on us to the extent we don’t usually get value for money from them, no arguments whatsoever. Regarding the merits of the wingers we have I don’t actually think Griffin has been that bad myself, and maybe if we invest time and money into Johnson could learn to defend – then we would have a very useful winger on our hands. George has played several times on the wing and no doubt could provide adequate cover there again should the need arise, as could Murhpy so we aren’t struggling for back up.
An oversees player should be worth his place and should only be with us if we have exhausted all other avenues and have no options left, and in this case given the several apparently available options I really don’t think that is true.
Let Semi go and run with Morton & Griffin for starters with Johnson first reserve and George and Murphy as emergency cover if we lose both out fist choice wingers and spend our resources (both financial and oversees) on more “important” positions than the wing.

This is a prime example of how expectations get raised and end up with people being so unrealistic. Even if we were going to spend the full cap how easy do you think it is to put a squad together who will be 'pushing for honours'? Look how many years and how much money Wire spent trying to 'push for honours' and most years they finished around or below us. First of all you have to be able to identify and get the players that the coach, who as far as we know hasn't been appointed yet, wants, you then need these players to gel and to play as a team against all the other teams who are spending the full cap. I'd sit tight and see who we get as coach and which other signings we are making before even thinking about expectations for next year.

| 1. New Signing……Tongia?
2. New Signing……someone like George who doesn’t break
3. Dean
4. Murphy
5. Tadulala
6. New Signing
7. New Signing
8. New Signing…………BIG and Strong and not Fat!
9. Ellis
10. Johnson
11. Mariano
12. Morrison
13. Howarth
14. Lee
15. Hickey…………I’d get rid but he is on contract
16. Korkidas………50:50 depending on other signings.
17. New Signing…..Wilkes?
18. Davey
19. Henderson
20. Moore
21. Gledhill
22. Morton
23. Anakin
24. Wildie
25. Walshaw
Would like to see them develop but not sure
Vievers
Hyde
Have my doubts whether they’ll make it, we need strong back up in the forwards:
Trout
Spiers
Lose:
George…………really like him but isn’t able to stay fit
Rinaldi…………like him but getting old and supposed to be going
Higgins…has been good for us but need stronger player in his position
Griffin……like him when he is good but carrying him at the moment
Johnson G….not good enough at the basics, just the flashy
Tony…..too old
Smith…..not good enough

Get your point, I just like Semi I think he is an honest player, does exactly what it says on the tin. Maybe it's better the devil you know.
Is he actually a quota player anyway?

Quota/non fed whatever, different if we are applying the letter of the law but the point remains the same. We should try get away from the mindset of making sure we have the maximum number of imports allowed (in whatever guize) - see it as a limit rather than a target.

Yet you don't know who our coach is going to be and you are already putting the pressure on with unrealistic expectations. Leeds also struggled for many years to make an impression in the trophy winning stakes but spent plenty of money trying. There are many, many things that need putting right at Wakey before we start thinking about becoming a regular top 8 club let alone challenging for trophies.
