| My first thoughts were I could live with a merger as a last resort, at least it would give me an option as to whether I went or not as against not going at all. After reading the bitterness and resentment on the Cas board I hope it never happens, let them play in the championship if they want to, after all they are used to playing there anyway.

I think that is already a given mate, whether anyone likes it on here or not. Neither side is getting a next Franchise on its own, with it's current standing.

| After a lot of the mergers in oz, the original clubs continued/started back up, in the feeder/lower leagues, is this not a possibility...for cas'
if we are in a position to continue in SL and they are not, and they are unwilling to go down the route of merger, they will be in the lower leagues anyway?
Before any cas fans come on here flagging me off, I know this scenario could work either way.
Some time, a bitter pill may have to be swallowed, maybe sooner than anyone really would like.

Seconded.
However, I've no problem with sharing a ground.

| Quote: Pilchard "Accept your point, but what is that bit.?
that bit means there is no merger, nor any possibility of one. merely an uninformed opinion by a poor journalist who thinks it would magically solve all our problems.
in reality even if the two clubs did merge they would still have no stadium(this as we all know is the be all and end all of SL criterea)
would probably struggle to get an attendance which matches either side presently
and would certainly struggle to improve on the 5th place that trinity managed last season

| What a fantastic club you all could have if only you would all swallow your pride,a merger between Wakefield,Castleford and Featherstone could possibly make this new venture a major success
With all these clubs being within the same council, then surely this council would back such a merger,a new shared stadium could also be funded more realistically, this would surely also appease the tax payers of Wakefield
The pool of talent available within this area would certainly make this new club a major player each season, one that would probably be in the top 5 each season and challenging on all fronts
Without this merger is it possible for Wakefield and Castleford to continue to exist in SL?

Plank???
Seriously speaking here mate
why would we have to ever merge with Wigan or Leigh?
Leigh already have their new stadium
Wigan have use of the football ground
We will be in our new stadium very shortly
I'm not so sure whether Leigh will actually make it into SL,even with their new stadium when the next franchises comes around!
But surely you must see that both Leigh and Widnes are ticking the boxes?

Wakefield Council are skint so they won't be directly funding any stadium. All three proposed stadiums do not require any public money so there are no rate payers to appease.
As has been said before, a merger does not automatically mean a new stadium will be built, both projects still have their issues. Also where ever the merger locates itself it would see supporters of the abandoned team become disenfranchised and turn their back on they new team.
