| I think chapster has a case of "I'm alright Jack". I use the library and every time I go in the computers are always full and the place is busy. It is between Flanshaw and Lupset, so serving two big estates. Not everybody is mobile enough or can even afford bus fares every day to travel further afield. I for one think it is a great shame for the local community and the people I have spoke to in the area are gutted.

that's exactly right mate, I attended English Martyrs. RC school just up the road and remember spending many hours in Flanshaw Library.
It was my first introduction to such a place and Ive always made a point of going back there for books on a regular basis, My kids, now26, 21, 19, 17 & 15 all use the library as well.
Talking to a number of people and Reading this thread leads me to wonder where the notion of it being under used comes from.

I blame the parents...

i pay my money to horbury school which is in the wakefield area..this benefits that school and the children who attend there. i don't know the arrangement with the school and the library / council but if there is no alternative then the school and the initiative that it has shown will lose money..i don't think it matters that i do not live in the area.
as for the quote about what wakefield council send there money on..well it is definately not on sporting facilites is it? my son plays football for a wakefield team also and we get "jack " from the council..perhaps if he played somewhere in cas where YOUR council prefer there would be benefits !!

I think with that many kids you could have been better off going to the chemist than the library Rick
